True Internet - Work Permit Holders Only.

i think as usual, OP spoke to the "wrong" person.

The beauty of Thailand, every time you call, you get a different answer.

You definitely do not need WP for internet connection.

I have a post paid phone service with 10 000 baht limit which i got WITHOUT WP from True, though first girl said i needed WP, second said i did not, third said i needed credit card and fourth asked for bank statement.

Sixth, just put through the application without any of the above and week later, my limit was increased to 10 000 baht per month

8 months later, i received a letter stating that they have suspended my service temporarily at my request but i still owe them 1200 baht, while in the mean time i have not had any problems and my phone has never been suspended.

I love Thailandbiggrin.png

I haven't spoken to "one" person - I've been in contact now with the management. I'm trying to get an "official" reason for this.

YOu might like to try yourself - just to see.

Call True and enquire about their hi-speed internet - new customer and see what happens.

It is interesting that several posters simply can't believe that this is true (pardon the pun) - presumably because they think it is such a stupid or impractical idea.

I do not think anyone doubts your "truth" what people are saying is that it has not been a rule or requirement ever.

Are you speaking to a branch or over the phone? if over the phone, visit a branch, if a branch, call over the phone.

Also might be an idea to offer an option to pay direct by credit card, ie they will deduct money automatically every month(do not worry about this option too much, as if they start to over charge or do silly things, you can contact your bank and put a block on it)

I have been living here as a retired person for five years, so no work permit.

So far I have financed a car in my own name, obtained a credit card in my own name without a deposit, I have had True television and Internet in my own name, landline in my own name, and recently I took out a post pay mobile phone contract with True including a discounted Iphone4s.

I am moving home next week so will be cancelling my True Internet and installing in my new condo, I'm not expecting a problem but I hope my confidence doesn't come back to haunt me.

Lately it seems some companies are requesting work permits before doing a request for foreigners. I met a group of new arrivals to Bangkok --expat foreign managerial women recently and they complained even though their companies use a service to get them set up- apt, cable, bank, phone(for fax) at home, car, etc they could not get anything done until the work permit was done so they remain in a hotel.

When I first opened my bank account I had to show a work permit. Recently my atm card was lost in taxi with other documents, I had to show the work permit again. Because my work permit was one of the documents lost and with the Thai holiday, it took 10 days to get a new one. I tried to get the REPLACEMENT CARD with just my passport explaining the situation and with a police report. The woman looked at my copy of the old wp and said she couldn't give me a replacement card because my work permit expired. I asked for the branch manager and he said the same. They copied the new work permit when I GOT IT 10 DAYS LATER. They said new requirements. Maybe immigration is trying to use businesses as added check points for overstays.

you may find that as an established customer you are OK - but I'll be interested to hear what these jobsworths do about it....

I'll bear your advice in mind.

however I really don't feel very happy about doing business with a company that dreams up such ridiculous documentary requirements - what else will they be like if I get their product? -bit doesn't bode well.

On the other hand they are the only option for hi-speed near me

I was asked for a work permit four or five years ago by the person at the main True office in the Fortune IT mall.

I told her I that I don't work in Thailand and I would only need a work permit for working, not for making phone calls and using the internet.

After some fuss and consulting with various others in the office I got the phone line and internet connection anyway and had two years of crappy internet service before I moved somewhere else and switched to TOT. I didn't even go to the TOT office to get this new phone line / internet connection, the apartment management sent someone down there with a photocopy of my passport and handled the whole setup.

Now I've took an apartment in Hua Hin and I got a new 3BB internet connection installed yesterday. A photocopy of my passport was required, they didn't mention a work permit but they wanted me to pay for 1 year up front. This annoyed me a little but I just paid it anyway as I wanted the service quickly. I must say, I first arranged this to be installed on Friday and they came on Saturday and did the installation which is very quick.

I suggest you boycott True and go with TOT.

Went to True today, first of all I thought I would test their "new rule" and say I wanted a phone line, internet and cable tv, the young lady couldn't have been more helpful and the question of a Work Permit requirement didn't arise.

Once I had signed up I told her that I was already a customer and needed to close the account I already had, again no problem, that was done with a smile.

I have to say that the young lady was the most helpful and friendly member of True staff I have ever dealt with.

I did it with my Thai Driving License. No mention of a passport or work permit.

Snap, at a stall in Big C. The stalls seem to be willing to give you anything with as little ID as possible.

Some companies have no imagination. If they had half a brain they would just charge the full year up-front.

That way who cares if the person has a WP or not, or if he goes home suddenly? No one.

Makes sense... Just signed up with 3bb internet and they required 6 months up front...The said reason being that I was renting as opposed to being the owner and could just up and leave, but possibly because I'm farang as well was additional incentive for the policy (local or nationwide, I don't know).

I'm not going to bother - not for a while - they are clearly a bunch of incompetents. I've just done a search and the amount of complaints about True are enough to put anyone off them.........and I thought TOT were bad......

When I signed up with True online I needed a workpermit or a post paid true mobile number, which I both not had.For some reason the sales lady offered to make the contract in her name. When she resigned a few years later and so also had no use anymore of her provided number they cut my connection and however I had always paid before due date they started the same shit to reconnect.

By that time I had a yellow tabien baan which they accepted after much discussion.

I'm very confident that True company must be run by xenophobists

not the tv, but the internet company, same name but not same company, though the owner of sophon tv owns 25% of the sophon internet

the sophon internet is only about 2-3 years old

Ive had but never shown a wp to anyone signing up for true internet 3 times. They photocopied the picture pages and departure card - which i suppose has my visa number if i remebered to write it in. Im pretty sure you can get one w any non immigrant visa and possibly a tourist visa.

Pipo, i think True is run by very incompetent and untrained staff. I first used true about 10 years ago and watched them go down every year since in terms of customer service and presentation.

Before all their shops and branches were staffed with well presented and spoken staff, now its staffed with cartoon characters.

The level of English has gone down considerably and the strangest part its no longer 24 hours customer service even though they claim to be.

Calling True customer care at 20pm gets you a voice mail and they never call back.

So I still believe with OP its a case of incompetence, 1 idiot made a statement that they want WP other idiots keep backing it up
