[Myanmar] China Urged To Allow Access To Kachin Refugees

New York-based Human Rights Watch (HRW) has released a report that calls on China to give humanitarian groups unfettered access to Kachin refugees in the country. In a press release on Tuesday, the group said that the report, “Isolated in Yunnan: Kachin Refugees from Burma in China’s Yunnan Province,†describes how at least 7,000 to 10,000 ethnic Kachin refugees have sought refuge in southwestern China since fighting in Burma’s Kachin State began in June 2011. Noting that China has “generally tolerated†the refugees, HRW said that many still lack basic necessities.
