[Myanmar] Burma Should Put Money Into Health Care, Not Military: Lancet

The respected medical journal The Lancet has called on Burma’s government to increase its spending on health care. In an editorial, the journal notes that despite recent reforms, the country has “some of the worst health indicators in the world†and spends just one-fifth of the annual minimum of $60 per person recommended for health care in low-income countries. “Health attracts less than three percent of overall government expenditure, and is dwarfed by the military budget,†according to the editorial, which urged the government “to shift resources from the military back to the health of its people.â€
