Drop-Down Menus Not Appearing

Featured Replies

I have to fill in a form on a UK government website.

I can log on to the site fine, but on the first page of the form

there are spaces for three drop-down menus and none of them are

appearing. And they are mandatory so I can't skip them.

I am running XP Pro SP3 and Firefox 13 but I have also tried

Opera, IE8, Chrome and Palemoon. On all these browsers

I can log-on OK but none of them produce the drop-down menus.

I've tried Firefox without any extensions at all,

and Chrome and Opera were new downloads just to try on this problem.

I normally use Java 7 but have dropped back to Java 6 with no effect.

Can anybody offer any (sensible) suggestions as to how to make these

drop-down menus appear?

Are you running an AdBlocker? Sometimes they can affect the content of a page...What's the URL?

Adblockplus on Firefox, yes. But I disabled all extensions and add ons to no effect. And the other 4 browers don't have an adblock. But thanks for the thought. I also forgot to mention I tried it on my wife's laptop to no effect. (XP home with an earlier Firefox).

try using internet explorer, some sites with drop down taps only internet explore works

hope this helps

I hate Internet Explorer, but I keep it on my system because some sites require it. This may be such a case.

A few months ago I bought a Thai RR ticket online. At one point things just stopped happening in my browser (FF). No warning, just lack of reaction to clicks. Problem solved by opening site in IE.

In chrome open the page and then hold together ctrl+shift+ J

This will bring up a section at the bottom of chrome or in a new window, most of it may be confusing but look for any lines in red in the box at the bottom.

If there is a script error or a file has failed to load then this will tell you what it is and confirm the site is broken.

Fixing it is a completely different matter and probably out of your hands!

UK Government? Could it be checking for a UK IP address by any chance to provide that function? It really should let you know however if that were the case.

What is the web address? Maybe others can take a look and see if the same issue is happening for them...

As he stated must be signed in suspect address would not be of much help for testing; even if not something he wants to keep private.

Unfortunately you need a login and password to get to the page with the form on. And I much regret I am not giving you mine!

The site is for expats to claim their Uk state pension so they are expecting a non-UK IP address and anyway I can log on and fill in the rest of the data on the first page of the form without a problem, it's just that the drop-down boxes don't.

It is not a major problem, just a nuisance, as I can still fill in a paper form and send it and even, I believe, telephone the claim in.

Perhaps it's just a combination of browser, Java, OS and that time of the month, who knows. But thanks for everybody's suggestions.
