[Myanmar] British Trade Delegation Visits Burma

Some of Britain’s biggest companies, including oil giants BP and Shell, sent representatives to Burma on Monday as part of the first government-sponsored trade delegation to the country in nearly two decades, according to The Independent. The newspaper’s sources said it was unlikely any deals would be struck during the trip, which was described as an an “exploratory visit.†The move follows a highly publicized visit to the UK and four other European countries in June by Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who cautiously welcomed ethical investment by Western companies.
