Psi Satellite

Featured Replies

I know this product popular with the Thai but is it favorable to English speaking clients. One time installation and no monthly fees? Was looking to set up for the uncle but looks good because now I pay over 2000 thb for gold package UBC.But I like movies, news and all types of sports.

We have a PSI satellite in Ubon. Cost was 3,000 baht plus, or around that figure I believe. No English language channels (except for some educational/travel stuff I have seen at odd times), although I often see English-language sections on some of the satellite/cable-based Thai news programmes (some of these news programmes good too, if you can understand a little Thai). Lots of stations from neighbouring countries. No Sky-type sports channels. I have actually seen some football broadcast by Laos/Vietnamese stations at odd times, but not to be relied on.

I only usually watch it for the nature programmes (very good), or Thai music programmes.

However, ours is only the basic box made for Thais. I have seen PSI TV adverts for different boxes containing sports channels and other English language channels. These will cost more, but with only a one-off fee still better than True I should think. Google PSI Thailand and you should find something, or contact their call centre.

PSI does not produce TV programming; they only make and sell satellite TV hardware products just like many other satellite TV manufacturers such as DynaSat, InfoSat, IdeaSat, Samart, Leotech, etc...etc...etc.

What programming a particular satellite transmits, such as Thaicom5, is determined by those TV channels/companies that pay to have their channels transmitted from satellite XYZ. Thaicom5 is without a doubt the most used satellite in Thailand, but it carries very little English free-to-air content (mostly religious channels)...the majority is Thai language channels and most of the remaining southwest/southeast Asia languages. Thaicom5 carries both free-to-air channels and pay-for-view (subscription requied)....TrueVisions also uses Thaicom5 to transmit its programming like their Platinum, Gold, Silver, Knowledge packages and also they HD channels.
