Thailand Post - When Is It Unnecessary To Fill Out A Custom Form For International Shipping?

Hi folks,

I was wondering if anybody knows the rule regarding custom declaration for sending small packets by air with Thailand Post? If I send a packet at 200 grams, do I need one?

I recently sent a padded envelope internationally that weighted like a pound and i didn't fill out any form. But I guess it only works for flexible items, isn't it?

What do you think about EMS? Advantages vs. disadvantages?

Please help, I'm struggling with it ;)

thanks

Wil

if you recently sent one for 450 grams without filling in a customs form why are you asking about one for 200grams.clap2.gif

My item is fragile. That's why I created a topic about it. I hope I answered your question and it made sense for you.

Anyone with thoughtful answer?

Thai Post has some strange rules. Just need to look at the choices on their website for one particular weight.

As far as I can fathom you always need to fill out small green customs form for small packet air but not letter.

For it to be charged as small packet it must not be sealed up with tape. For an envelope you can staple it closed and a box you can tie with string.. If sending as air parcel (which is always more expensive than small packet) you fill in a multi layer customs form and I believe these packages you can tape up. Small packet is available up to 2kgs. Air parcels go over 2kgs.

Finally a knowledgeable answer. Thank you, cmsally!

I agree thai post is weird. Not much info provided, even in thai.

Anyway, what do you mean by small packet must Not be sealed with tape? Why is that? With what material do we have to seal the small packet? I can't picture... What about self sealed packet?

Small packet air is normally the cheapest price and it seems if you seal it with tape they automatically charge it as a letter which is normally about 50Bt more. Although they have another rate for printed goods which is similar but it always seems to get charged as a letter.

For small packet you can put in a box - only string allowed although the boxes have a close tab built in too. Then the padded envelopes or envelope. For these you are only meant to use staples to close (ie staples as in desktop stapler) . You aren't meant to use the sticky seal nor tape. However it seems you can use as many staples as you like. I usually put in about 5 for a small postpak. That keeps it well shut.

PS You register with a tracking number for approx 65 BT extra.

This shows up on Thai post until it leaves Thailand and then shows up on most overseas post services. Obviously the Brits can't work it out yet as you can never track in UK!

cmsally, thanks a lot :)

If I get what you say, I have to get a string around the small packet to avoid being charge for sticky seal or tape?? So weird!

Apart from additional charges, is it fine too use a post agent? There's one at sala daeng bts. Or do you recommend always using Thailand post?

I've never used a postal agent . I would use the normal post office if I were you. The main one is on Charoen Krung.

The one at BTS might actually be a real post office but I'm not familiar with it.
