Not to be left out, in Narathiwat yesterday, two Rangers were shot dead.

They were killed while riding their motorcycle there when another motorcycle pulled up next to it and the rider shot the two in the head with a pistol.

The Ramadan death toll now stands at 11.

Two major blasts hit Pattani

PATTANI: -- A car-bomb exploded behind the CS Pattani Hotel late yesterday evening and it was followed by a blast at a power station which left several areas plunged in darkness for several hours.

first was 16/03/08...2 dead many injured.

The bomb was detonated at approximately 1915 local time.

I was about 2 kilometers away having dinner in a small

"eatery" I like when in Pattani. Town went into darkness,

my hotel was evacuated....tensions are still high at the moment

and it's now 1155....

Its obvious that religion hasn't work, Buddism with the Thais and Islam with the Muslims.

It is extremely doubtful that education would do any better there in the south than it has done in other geographic areas or provinces.

One cannot educate the already ignorant.

No curfew despite escalating unrest in southern Thailand

BANGKOK, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- The Thai Government will not impose curfew in southern Thailand despite escalating violence in the area, of late.

Deputy Prime Minister Gen Yuthasak Sasiprapha said the government would instead, tighten security and increase checkpoints in the three southern provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat.

"Authorities have not considered declaring curfew in controlling the situation at the moment. We will not let the violence continue," he said.

There's a variety of motivations at work I believe with a mix of insurgents, drug traffickers, domestic disputes, "mafia" wars, etc.

There's very little cooperation with authorities in the area which makes differentiation between these sources of violence extremely difficult. Until there is more trust and cooperation, little reason to believe there will be improvement.

btw, in today's carnage, in Pattani, a rider on a motorcycle threw a grenade at a roadside tea shop this afternoon. A local resident suffered multiple shrapnel wounds, but survived.

Also, in the early hours of today in Pattani, two men riding a motorcycle opened up with automatic weapons on a different tea shop. The shop owner and a customer were killed on the spot. .

At nearly the same time in a different district in Pattani, another two men on a motorcycle shot an assistant village head man in front of his house hitting him 6 times. He died.

Three killed, four injured in two Pattani shootings

Violence continues in the deep south province of Pattani on Wednesday as gunmen shot dead three people and injured four others in two shooting incidents in Pattani early Wednesday.

Police said two insurgents on a motorcycle shot dead Doloh Yusoh, 44, an assistant village headman in Thapong village in Tambon Talokapo in Pattani's Yaring district at 3.30am.

He was attacked while parking his pickup truck in front of his house. He was shot six times in his face and body.

At nearly the same time, two insurgents drew up on a motorcycle in front of a teashop in Buket Nori village in Tambon Khuannori in Pattani's Khokpho district.

Police said the pillion rider opened fire with his AK-47 assault rifle spraying bullets into the shop and causing some 10 customers to flee for their lives.

Police said Saleh Baheng, 60, the shop owner, and Abdulromae Mano, 37, were killed.

The four injured victims were identified as Yuso Yunu, 60, Maya Karisabeng, 56, Yusoh Karisabeng, 51, and Maae Sanidoloh, 42.

Police arrived at the scene in Buket Nori at 9.30am where they found more than 20 spent shells of AK-47 ammunition.

You have religion with nationality then religion with religion "Buddism with the Thais and Islam with the Muslims" There are Thais who are Muslim. People are ignorant because they lack knowledge. Education can and does change people’s perceptions.

Education cures ignorance, by defintion. The better educated a human mind, the less likely it is to fall victim to it's own baser tendencies of tribalism; in this instance religious extremism.
