I will be arriving in Chiang Mai, Thailand on the above type of Visa early November 2012, for which I meet the eligibilities.

I wish to stay in Thailand till the beginning of August 2013 but then need to return to my home country New Zealand, for business purposes for a period of approximately 6 weeks. I then wish to return to Chiang Mai with the intention of retiring there if I am happy with my situation there.

My understanding on reading comments on TV are that I will be allowed to stay in Thailand till August 2013 with just 90 day reporting requirements and that when I return to Thailand in September/October 2013 I should automatically receive another 1 year extension on this Visa as long as I return to Thailand before the expiry of this Visa.

I presumably would then once again just need to do the 90 day reporting up to the time just before this Visa expires. I will then need to apply for an extension of stay which is when I will have to have the 800,000 seasoned in a Thai Bank Account for 2 months.

Can someone confirm I am correct in my interpretation of the rules, or tell me where I am wrong. Can they also confirm whether I need to get a re-entry permit before I leave Thailand in August 2013 or not.

Thank you for your assistance

The Visa is valid for 12 months from date of issue.

Every time you enter before that expiry date you will get 12 months stay.

After expiry you need a Re Entry Permit to keep your permission to stay alive.

Do I need the re-entry permit if I return to Thailand before the Visa has expired or isn't it required because the Visa is still valid??

I am in a comparable situation and am wondering about my possibilities...

I got my Non-entry O in Amsterdam... expires dec 12 next. I traveled for bussiness-reasons many times between Amsterdam and Bangkok, so back in Bkk any time the 90-day period started again.

Next week i have to go my homecountry again.

I was told that, if i enter Thailand shortly before dec12 i can stay another 90 days from the day of arrival, so up to let's say mid March.

I wonder now how to get extension or do i have to apply for new visa again?

Checking my visa properly, i see an extra stamp 'no extension of stay'... Does it mean that by no way i can get extension when i want to stay longer? If so it means that i have to leave Thailand before mid March. Can i apply for new visa immideately after coming back in my homecountry or are there other ways to achieve extension.....

Searching the internet... i cannot find a clear answer, so i am happy to find this post and connect to it.... Hope anybody can clearify....

The Thai consulate in Amsterdam seems fond of adding "no extension of stay" to non-immigrant visas. This addition is inappropriate and meaningless; the immigration office will simply ignore it if you qualify for an extension of stay.

Actually that notation is to alert the holder that the normal 30 day extension available for a tourist visa entry is not available for a non immigrant 90 day visa entry. Bad language but that is the meaning from my understanding (which could be wrong). But as said there is no problem extending for a valid reason in police order 777/2551

thank you for ur reply... do i have to apply before dec12 = end of visa validity or can i apply during my last stay - until mid march - under this visa?

You don't need an extension to use the visa again prior to the date it expires. If you enter on or before Dec.12 th you will get another 90 day entry. The expiration date only limits the amount time you can use the visa not the amount time you can be in the country.
