Iran has announced plans to establish an embassy in Burma, according to the Tehran-based Mehr news agency. The move comes amid Iran’s outspoken criticism of recent communal unrest in Arakan State, which it has sought to portray as an anti-Muslim genocide. “We believe that the establishment of an embassy can help strengthen political relations between the two countries and through the measure, we can take an effective step to help resolve the problems of the Muslim people of Myanmar through cooperation with the country’s government,†said Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi.
