LOVERS CAN GET MARRIED UNDERWATER IN TRANG

The Trang Underwater Wedding Ceremony will take place on the Valentine’s Day in Trang Province, and the provincial authority would like to invite couples and tourists to participate in this unconventional marriage.

The TAT, together with the Trang provincial authority, held a press briefing on the 10th Anniversary of Trang Underwater Wedding Ceremony 2006 at Central Ladprao Department Store, in which Deputy Prime Minister Suchai Charoen Rattanakul chaired the event.

Trang is one of Thailand’s charming provinces that attract many nature lovers worldwide. The beautiful Andaman coast, the milky white beach, as well as many small islands surrounding the province are just some of the attractions. Also, many beautiful coral reefs and marine animals are residing close by. Looking back ten years ago, Trang is known as one of the places that create a fascinating love legend.

A decade ago, a scuba couple fell in love and decided to get married in Trang. However, it was not a usual marriage ceremony as they decided to hold the ceremony underwater. As a result, the province has become famous following this romantic and extraordinary incident. Furthermore, the event was considered to be the largest underwater marriage in the world, as many couples also joined in the ceremony.

As this year is the 10th Anniversary of Trang Underwater Wedding Ceremony 2006, Trang Provincial Governor Cherdphan Na Songkhla (เชิดพันธ์ ณ สงขลา) would like to extend his invitation to everyone to visit this underwater romance. As for this year’s occasion, scuba lovers will be able to perform a traditional Trang’s wedding ceremony which has not been carried over in the past ceremonies. Again, the event will take place between the 13th and 15th of February near Pak Meng (ปากเมง) Beach in Si Kao (สิเกา) District of Trang Province.

Apart from promoting love, the event will also promote tourism in Trang.

An underwater wedding ceremony will be organized to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

The Trang (ตรัง) municipality, the Trang Chamber of Commerce, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and THAI Airways International will jointly organize “underwater wedding 2006” during February 13-15.

Mr. Cherdpan Na Songkhla (เชิดพันธ์ ณ สงขลา) revealed that the Trang (ตรัง) municipality, the Trang Chamber of Commerce, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and THAI Airways International will organize the underwater wedding fair this year during February 13-15, to promote Trang’s tourism industry. He said that the event, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, will see 60 local and foreign couples attend the wedding ceremony this year.

On February 13, a parade to introduce the couples will be organized, starting from the Pattalung (พัทลุง) road in front of the old city hall to the Muang district office. A dinner featuring local traditional dishes will be held for the couple. The event will be presided by Trang governor, and live performances will be organized.

On February 14, a Thai traditional wedding will be organized on Pak Meng (ปากเมง) beach, before the couples are taken 12 meter underwater to register their weddings. And on February 15, there will be a tree-growing event at the southern botanical garden in Yan Ta Khao (ย่านตาขาว) district.
