What Fish Is This?

Featured Replies

This is a picture of the species of fish most common in the river behind my house. Not much of a sportfish, although the villagers go to great lengths to catch them.

They seem to get only to about 20cm long at the most, although I could be mistaken. Mostly they are between 10 and 15cm.

Anyhow I would like to learn the name of this fish. Even the Thai name would be helpful.

If you get a whole lot of them an bout 6 or 7 cm long then deep fry them whole dipped in a light tempura batter - delicious. Jus like Whitebait for those who know.

I have discovered it belongs to the class of true minnows (cyprinids), probably a type of rasbora.

Still trying to narrow it down.
