[Myanmar] Journalists Protest Media Clampdown

Recommended Posts

Dozens of journalists marched through Rangoon on the weekend to demand that the government honor its pledges to relax restrictions on the media. The move comes after Burma’s censorship board, the Press Scrutiny and Registration Division, last week ordered the suspension of two local journals, The Voice Weekly and The Envoy, for failing to submit stories for pre-publication scrutiny. The protesters wore black t-shirts emblazoned with the slogan “Stop Killing Press†in Burmese and English and called on the government abolish all “oppressive†media laws.
