Plans to offer budget air travel to Pagan and Naypyidaw have been put on hold pending upgrades to the airports of the two Burmese destinations. According to The Bangkok Post, Thai AirAsia (TAA), a regional low-cost carrier, has aircraft available for two new routes from Bangkok to Burma’s ancient and current capitals, but their respective airports lack the capacity to handle the extra traffic. However, TAA said it expects to launch direct flights from Bangkok to Mandalay, Burma’s second largest city, in October. Currently, the only international flights to Mandalay are from Kunming, China.
