A deluge of criticism has forced Burmese Information Minister Kyaw Hsan to postpone the formation of a new interim press council, according to a report by the Democratic Voice of Burma. The Myanmar Journalists Association (MJA), several of whose members were expected to join the 20-member Core Press Council, objected to joining the body because it was expected to function in a capacity similar to that of the existing censorship board. “Now that the Core Press Council is [put on hold], censorship will continue to exist but we have to go along with that,†said MJA secretary Pho Yan Naing Linn.
