[Myanmar] Rights Commission Balks At Calls For Arakan Inquiry

The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission has rejected a call for an inquiry into the violence that broke out in Arakan State two months ago, according to a report by Voice of America. The chairman of the commission, Win Mra, said in an interview with VOA that he didn’t understand why the UN rights envoy for Burma, Tomas Ojea Quintana, made the call, since the government has already launched an investigation into two incidents that sparked the clashes between Arakanese Buddhists and Rohingya Muslims. He also called Quintana’s observations “biased,†without elaborating.
