Any Nexus 7 owners out there that wants to share their opinions about the device?

How much does it sell for? I haven't seen it in any shops yet.

Is it worth it if it has no 3g? Just asking..........

The most likely scenario is that the user already has a smartphone, In that case, he just needs to share the data connection of his phone to his tablet.

In any case, it seems tablet are primarily used at home, where there's wifi.

For me it would be worth it.

Given the relatively low price point, lack of availability and the huge number of in-expensive Chinese tablets available here, I do not think there is any sort of potential here for grey-market imports?

Anyone who has one here probably purchased it in the U.S.?

It seems like a lot of retailers have been re-stocked, I see Staples has the N7/16 for $249, and the N7/8 for $199 (in store only).

People seem to generally like it, and storage can be supplemented although this requires rooting.

This thread has some first-hand reports, start ~ pg. 11.

If its worth selling, then more than likely you'll find a Thai selling it if you look hard enough.

Just look on thai auction/shopping websites like pramool and thai2ndhand or thai ebay sanook

Agreed and understood. I was trying to address the OP's questions which seemed focused on locating N7's in shops, and why that might prove challenging.

There are many people selling N7's here on line: N7/8 GB ~ 8,500 baht and the N7/16 GB ~ 10,500 baht.

The lack of 3G is not a problem, my phone covers that need.

I don't get it - will Nexus 7 not be sold in shops in Thailand?

If your question is, Will some local partner team with Google to introduce this product officially here in Thailand, my answer remains, most likely no.

The Nexus 7 is a media tablet rather than a traditional tablet. It is aimed at a different market, price-point and application set. This product really pressures the Kindle Fire from above. This is really just a further fragmentation of the tablet market. We want to try and pigeon-hole every new product but you really have to think outside the box to fully comprehend this product. It almost assumes constant, broadband connectivity with streaming media, and storage required just for those brief times when you are not connected. If you need USB, massive storage, 3G et al, then a traditional tablet is better for you.

I am not certain there is a market for this new style tablet here in Thailand, barring perhaps the education segment wink.png. Maybe in a few years? The price point may not make the grey-market efforts worthwhile?

Google does not have a local selling/service/support presence here, relying on service providers for most sales and the local Samsung subsidiary for warranty service/repair, on the Nexus phone models to date. Since this new tablet does not have 3G it is unlikely that a service provider will endeavor to sell it. wink.png Perhaps Google could get ASUS to localize the product, promote and market it, manage the sales channels and provide warranty service/support/repair? Perhaps unlikely given the relatively low margin one would expect? And you're up against the Chinese tablets. I think if you want a Nexus 7 you should source it in the U.S.?

While I have no doubt there is a market here for 3,000 baht tablets I'm not sure Google has identified Thailand as a country which warrants the ramp-up costs, at this time.

this just reinforces my point about Google not wanting to market this product in Thailand. It would have to be imported,taxed/uplifted, localized, marketed, sold, serviced, replacement parts stocked, people trained, et al. All of these activities are costs, and are typically assumed by a local subsidiary or channel partner. I think Google does have a local sub. here now but I think they are focused on other activities. And there may not be enough margin for a channel partner to jump in. Yes, there will be grey-market imports, for sure. By sourcing in the U.S. I meant, more or less, having a friend bring one over for you. I return to the U.S. ~ 6 times each year, and am currently there now, so I bring a lot of gear back with me for friends, colleagues and relatives. I was considering a getting an SGN this trip but went with a used SGS2.

AOBMobile.net in MBK sells 8Gb for 9900 thb, 16G for 11900 thb.

I just stopped by this shop (large corner/counter - quite nice, and friendly helpful staff) a few minutes ago. They do have the N7/16 GB for 11,900 baht. They said they did not have the 8 GB version.
