LOS ANGELES: - Director Tony Scott has died after leaping from a bridge in Los Angeles, authorities confirmed.

Scott, 68, directed popular films including Top Gun, Days Of Thunder, Beverly Hills Cop II and Enemy Of The State.

The British-born director, who is the younger brother of director Ridley Scott, jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge spanning San Pedro and Terminal Island in California at around 12.30pm on Sunday, said the LA Coroner's office.

According to the Contra Costa Times, Scott climbed a fence on the south side of the bridge's apex and leapt off 'without hesitation'.

A dive team with Los Angeles Port Police pulled the body from the murky water several hours later.

Scott's body was taken to a dock in Wilmington and turned over to the county coroner's office.

RIP and condolences to his family.

This seemed like a horrible way to die, but I guess for someone involved in action movies it's quite fitting.

I enjoyed some of his movies and the Good Wife is a great TV show.

His movies were quite good and entertaining as for the Good Wife, well I don't this this show as it is not on Australian T.V and can't comment.

Society may come around to the idea, but the government--or more specifically, the right wingers--need to come around and stop threatening those that do support it.

Who says he didn't WANT to die in a fun way? He could have just bought some heroin and OD'd, or locked himself in a car with the exhaust... He chose to die in a fun filled death leap! If I ever reach a point of old age and decrepit health, I want to jump from an airplane, into an active volcano, with no parachute. On MDMA. And heroin. Why not go out with a bang? Good for him, to have the guts to do it the way that he wanted to.

Tony Scott Brain Cancer Report Appears in Doubt

Aug. 20, 2012

The family of director Tony Scott, who died Sunday after jumping off a Los Angeles bridge, was not aware Scott had cancer, Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told ABC News station KABC in Los Angeles.

ABC News was unable to reach Scott's family to confirm the assistant chief coroner's statement.

ABC News had reported the director of films such as "Top Gun," "Days of Thunder" and "Crimson Tide" had inoperable brain cancer, citing a source close to Scott.

Police said they received a 911 call at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday that an individual had jumped off the Vincent Thomas Bridge.

RIP Tony.. we loved your films. You probably single-handed made Tom Cruise a cult hero. Maybe that's not a good thing, but we loved you anyway.. wai.gif

Phyllis Diller another entertainment legend passed away on the same day. Unfortunately she didn't reach the same status to make the world news on here but she entertained generations for 75 years and was considered icon by many.

I read that during the last few days of his life he spent a lot of time with Tom Cruise planning for a Top Gun sequel.

I wonder if that tipped him over the edge.
