Hi,

a couple of years ago we have put together an all Farang band in Pattaya with occasional live gigs in various venues around town. Was good fun and then both lead guitarists have been transferred out of Thailand and the band somewhat broke up and was inactive for the last 18 months.

I'd like to start that again, so if you play drums, guitar, bass, whatever, please give me a PM or post here, there MUST be some guys (or girls?) out there who like to do something!

Hope to hear from you soon!

Well, it looks like I found a decent drummer the other day. A forum member might be available for the bass, so one more lead guitar player is required to get started. If there's anyone out there, please drop me a pm for more info.

Cheers

I can flat pick and cross pick bluegrass guitar also sing bluegrass lead and play 5 string banjo but don't think that will fit very well in a R&R band. :o

Aren't you kinda worried that the the BIB will pick you up for working without a permit? I am and because of that will never play in public.

Hi Rimmer, tx for your post! Not sure if a banjo fits in our context, we're more in the (Hard) Rock league....whereas the guitarist we had those days was originally also a Banjo player. Unfortunaltely he has been transferred by his company to somewhere else.

As for the BiB, there's nothing much to worry about as long as you play for free and occasionally only.

Got to admit, that was my main worry.

I live here, and want to stay here. :o

Played in farang land all my life, and one of the main reasons I came to LOS was the (delayed) music scene, but the laws here for playing for pleasure scare the <deleted> out of me.

Mike.

I'd still be very careful though. :o

I was wondering about that. There was a thread a month or so back about a farang in - I think it was Phuket- who got arrested and hauled off by the bib just for jamming for free with a Thai band. Apparently, even if you're not getting paid, they do some nonsense about the farang using the band's mike or amps, and that constitutes 'renting them' and therefor he is a professional and therefor needs a work permit!!!! TIT

Then there were the farang bands who played in Mojos off Soi 31 in BKK. they all got stopped because of work permits.

Sometimes I reckon the Thai musicians tip the bib off.

So I would follow Dave's advice (and he aught to know) - be very careful. :o

Hello I’m Robert and I'll be in Pattaya sometime around the end of June 2006 staying for a least one year. I'm a guitarist and I specialize in electric lead rock guitar. I was a lead singer and lead guitarist for 12 years paying mainly in New York and Southern California. I can pretty much play anything in the rock guitar field. I’m bringing a small setup with me to Thailand that I was just thinking I would have for practice and a little fun. I have a substantial road system here in the States in anvils for road gigs if I ever need it. It might be fun to jam with you guys. If you have a Drummer, a Bass player and a place to practice we could have some fun.
