Hi All

Heading back to Chiang Mai with the family so wife and kids can catch up with our Thai Relatives.

We are going to be in Chiang Mai for a bit then Mae Hong Son and Pai.

I love fishing and am taking a Rod/Reel which fits in a small case with some lures and plastics.

Just wondering if there is any good fishing parks in the northern parts of Thailand or any info on fishing the rivers?

Any info much appreciated.

Cheers

I will move it to the Fishing forum

The best place i have found is Bor Sang fishing park on the outskirts of town, but the only thing you are likely to catch is catfish, or you could try Chiang Mai fishing park which is close to the Gymkhana golf club, more of the same i am afraid but they do have some Pacu and have just introduced some Alligator Gar to liven up the place !

There is a big dam north of the CM city, near Mae Taeng I think. Below are some shots that I took a few months ago. It's probably a 1.5 hours drive from the city if I remember correctly. For more information, search for the member, T_Dog, in the CM forum who had written some interesting places in that area.

Wow, fishing places like that are a real adventure. You usually catch nothing but it's the thought of what you might just catch!

You think they have caught every fish in there and posted the picture?

Also you think because you see the picture that you'll catch it?

I like the fact that many reservoirs are stocked with siamese carp and mekong catfish to help the fight against extinction. Seeing a semi wild 200kg fish break the surface in a wild reservoir is quite a sight.

Nice fish, what about this monster caught by some local guys in a dam_n around Chiang Rai, apparently they had been fishing for pla shadow and foul hooked it by the tail !

Yeah that's the thing I love about places like Thailand. You could hook a fish bigger than you in a river, lake or reservoir. The floods in 2011 have released who knows how many mekong catfish, siamese carp, asian carp into waters surrounding Bangkok and the other affected areas. I've had hooks straighten on monsters I never saw once hooking them. I had to nearly lock down my drag or I'd be spooled.

A 180kg 2.8 metre male and a 170kg 2.2 metre female.

Then there's the freshwater stingrays aswell. w00t.gif
