Last year when in Sattahip I bought some cardboard sheets treated with something that encourages puppies to urinate on them and not anywhere else. Yes I know but.....my wife wants some.

Has anyone seen these in Bangkok? Otherwise I guess I'll have to drive to Sattahip!

Hi Vocalneal,

Not sure where in BKK you are but there is a pet store on ramkamheang, just after the honda training ground and I'm pretty sure they had them in there a month or so ago when I popped in to pick up some treats. They are treated with something like you say to encourage the pup to urinate.

They looked like this -

Martin,

I have looked at those but I didn't see any reference to treatment. The ones i saw were hospital bed pampers like pads overly priced with dogs on the packet.

The wife wants the cardboard ones.

Use a few sheets of news print.

But to encourage your dog to use them as a toil;et zone you need to dope them with a small amount of either urine or stool from another dog (not one of yours but a soi dog etc. (Small amount means a dab or a smear.)

Might sound crazy to you but to a dog the scent of another dog's urine/stool gives them a strong urge to mask that intruding scent with their own.

Best to use the urine of a dog not a bitch that might be in heat as that will just result in your dog wanting to sniff it a'la Japanese used panties as sold in vending machines.

If you need to use babies nappies with a modification and similar doping you can, but remember ideally a dog will hold it's poo/urine for as long as possible rather than use it's house as a toilet. Best to have free access to a toilet zone outside the house and certainly NOT where it either sleeps nor eats. Allowing that to happen is just creating a house training problem you will live with for years.
