Phuket Named World’s Most Overcrowded Destination Amid Tourism Boom
Id like to know where they get their information from. For a start the article mentions the 300 baht tourist tax, which has yet to be implemented, and the top three destinations all being Thai looks fishy to me. No mention of certain Greek or Spanish islands and major cities.. I think the data may be based on a ratio of tourists to locals. It is well known that Phuket's so- called population is undercooked as most residents are registered elsewhere in Thailand. That's probably true of Pattaya and Krabi too. Phuket is overcrowded in high season but so are many others. Worst in the world? I doubt it -

Foreigner Steals Taxi While High on Cannabis, Crashes into Lamp Post
You have to smile at all the deniers and obvious users of whatever drug sucks their boat. They say anything to make everyone believe that drugs are good and 'safe' to use. Maybe they should just own up to addiction, look closely at themselves and admit that their little lives are ruled by whatever drugs they take. Let's face it - they can't live without it! Yes, It's called addiction! Never taken them - never needed to in 80 years. But I can enjoy an occasional gin & Tonic, or a beer, or a glass of wine now and again, without feeling the need to steal a taxi! All I have to do is sit back, and patiently wait for the deniers to tell me all about alcohol being 'just another drug'. -

Storm Wreaks Havoc in Nonthaburi: Canopy Blown Away, Power Poles Collapse on Vehicles
Picture from responders. Nonthaburi was hit by a severe thunderstorm on the evening of September 12, causing significant damage throughout the area. A commercial building’s parking roof covering collapsed and was blown into the street, taking down power poles and crushing vehicles. The local hospital, Phra Nang Klao, had to rely on backup generators as the storm damage caused a widespread power outage. At approximately 19:30, the Nonthaburi Municipality's disaster prevention and mitigation team received a report about a collapsed roof covering that had fallen on cars parked in front of Phra Nang Klao Hospital, located in Bang Krasor, Mueang District, Nonthaburi Province. Combined withheavy rainfall and powerful winds the falling roof, led to several power poles collapsing onto vehicles, damaging over ten cars and motorcycles. Mayor Samanuek Thanadechakul was informed of the situation and dispatched Deputy Mayor Apiwat Phetruang, alongside local police and electricity officials, to assess the damage. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a two-story, ten-unit commercial building with a metal roofed parking area behind it. The strong winds had ripped the roof off, causing it to crash onto cars and motorcycles parked on the roadside. Additionally, three power poles were knocked down. Municipal officials were forced to temporarily close one side of the road while workers cleared the debris and power company officials cut the electricity to begin repairs. Apiwat explained that the illegal extension of the building's roof was to blame, as the powerful winds easily lifted and destroyed the structure. The resulting damage caused an immediate power outage in the area, forcing Phra Nang Klao Hospital to switch to its backup generator, as it lost all mains power. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Electricity officials took 5 hours to fully restore power to the area. -- 2024-09-13 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe -

Latest developments and discussion of recent events in the Ukraine War
Russia can end war now, says PM as Putin warns West Russia "started" the conflict in Ukraine and can end it "straight away”, Sir Keir Starmer has said after Vladimir Putin suggested Moscow would regard Western missiles being fired into Russia as a serious escalation of the war. The PM is in Washington for talks with US President Joe Biden on Friday, as allies of Kyiv discuss giving Ukraine permission to fire their missiles at targets inside Russia. Putin told Russian state television that this would “mean nothing other than the direct participation of Nato countries - the US and European countries - in the war in Ukraine. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cvgxgvw38xjo -

Pattaya Launches Safety Campaign for Songthaew Drivers and Tourists
Since they were never utilized, simply ignored (like the pedestrian crossings), no point repainting them. just the 'stops' that seem to be used, on second Rd, start of Beach Rd etc.
