Fine Steel Wool - Does It Exist

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for grade #0000 steel wool to buff out a shellac wood finish. Can't find it anywhere. I have showed photos to various tradesmen here, and they look at me with blank stares. Anyone?

I have some here in the UK whereabouts in Thailand are you I could bring some over . I am in BKK or will be on the 8th of October

I used it for going over Liberon finishing oil just before applying a liberon wax to a mahogany bannister here.

Why don't you use those green scour pads,it would have the same effect I guess.

If you really need the steel wool I would have a look at a stainless steel shop since they use brushes from that material.

Thanks. I already order a pack of it off Ebay. $2 for the wool, and $10 shipping. I didn't think of scotch-brite I'll give that a try.

Steel wool is usually undesirable when working with wood. Invariably what happens is some of the steel fibers get pressed into the wood and create rust streaks in time. Brass wool and brushes are widely available in Thailand paint shops and hardware stores though grades I cannot speak for.
