Is there any relevance that the injured motorcyclist was an off-duty police-officer?

Is there any relevance that the injured motorcyclist was an off-duty police-officer?

Presumably it indicates why someone may have felt motivated to do this.

"... car is said to have sped up alongside him ..."

The implication being that it was intentional rather than an accident.

Hope he's ok, looks like he's injured but will survive.

Good thing he didn't turn into a pumpkin at midnight or he would have been smashed to bits.
