New Plates

well thanks for all the answers, guys

in fact, the dealer sent me the real plates, which arrived today.

I put them on the car this afternoon - and yes, they have a seal in the bottom right corner

So all in all, real plates and tax disc received 10 weeks after purchase

will send back the red plates tomorrow I guess

Picked up my new nissan today. No Temp tag or anything? Car is paid for in full! Any idea how a new car dealer can allow a car off the lot without plates?

I bought a Isuzu in January and I STILL have my red plates. We went driving into Laos with an Isuzu caravan tour. Prior to going we applied to the Department of Land Transport, for the Thai metel plates in ENGLISH as required. I now have these metal black and white plates WITH the govenment stamp. I had been told by a police officer that I must only display the red paper plates while in Thailand. That is all well and good BUT we have been having flooding here in and around Sa Kaeo and my paper plate are starting to disintegrate.

Question?? how was Ministry of Land Transport able to VERY quickly ( withen 2 weeks) supply my metal plate in English with my license number yet I have been waiting now going on 10 months

Big part of that mystery is probably your dealer sitting on the money for the registration.

There's no demand for romanised plates so you got them quick. There's a huge backlog on regular squiggle ones so that will take ages. I took delivery in late April, had red plates for about 6 weeks until my rego/tax sticker came through (but still no plates) in early July. My local LTO receipt states '120 days' until the white, metal plates are ready. I don't get harrassed by the cops since I the dealer took the red plates back either!

Regarding the comment that the dealer is sitting on rego fees.... seriously unlikely as thai dealerships want to be shot of car and customer as quickly as possible (think thai customer service and you get my drift). Much more likely that the LOCAL Land Transport Office is an office of serious oxygen wasters (more than the average government office) and there's a pile of unfiled, unsorted and un-actioned rego paperwork that gets a cursory glance around 3pm every friday before they knock off for the weekend's karaoke.
