True Vision - Alternative Viewing-Satellite Etc

Recommended Posts

Posted

I am finding True Vision rather boring with repeats and quite limited options.

Can anybody offer any suggestions to what is a worthwhile form of viewing TV content with hopefully a good cross section for english programmes.

Is an external satellite dish going to give a reasonable coverage or using the computer?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Internet will give you a much wider choice, the problem there though is have you got a good enough connection speed. I get fed up with True and tried the internet but got really pissed off whe it was watch 10 seconds wait 20 seconds, so for me it was useless and have no alternative. I will watch this thread with interest to see if something else pops up that may be practical.

Use Torrents to get good English programmes and watch at your leisure. I copy them to a USB stick and watch them on the DVD player.

Sports are another matter entirely and live streaming can be hit and miss, but you will need to better define what programmes you are looking for.

The main reason I have True is the EPL and other live sports coverage, in HD. That's reason enough for me, and the cooking programmes and Everybody Loves Raymond repeats are just a bonus!

That was one of the reason i kept it but can't be ass these days seeing the footy ... plus if there is a game i really wanna see can go to the pub or look for a live stream for it ...

I am out in the sticks, so an internet streaming connection is out of the question.

I am looking at getting true vision, apart from the price difference, can anyone advise which package is better.....Platinum...Gold....Gold Lite?

The main reason I am looking for is, to watch golf and probably some other sports......not that interested in soccer.

I know the obvious answer is the number of channels, but what I am asking is.......are the extra channels worthwhile or just a waste of time and money?

Cheers in advance.

It is probably a dumb question but does true visions have radio in the TV package? I have gold.

I am told the Vietnamese equivalent of True is quite similar.

I am also told it can be decoded so you get the full range of channels.

Presumably this is legal outside Vietnam, maybe even inside.

Suggest you ask your local satellite shop and check it is indeed legal and they can connect you, or know a man who can (visions of a hit squad of Vietnamesee police arriving at night by helicopter with SWAT gear on)

May cost you 250 per month to pay for the decoding which will come through your internet connection.

As for my assertion that The Iet package is quite good....can anyone confirm/refute? (I personally am happy with no TV plenty of great material available online).

One drawback......no subtitles or Thai channels for your wife.....if stopping her TV watching is a bad thing.....

Just had a look at the link and also cannot see anything that looks like radio........have to wait until one of the members who already has true visions to let you know.

Cheers.

Yes, True do carry radio channels.

BUT.....20 channels (DMX) are being cancelled 16th Sept and the rest (inc BBC world service) appear to be due for cancellation on 9th Oct. Do not know if any replacements.

Thanks for the replies.

I find the internet is far superior for radio channels, and of course is free. News is also freely available on the Internet.

I have been using YouTube quite a bit more recently, you have to do a bit of hunting to find what you want.

I think I will cancel my True Vision subscription, can always subscribe again if needed.

OP: one alternative-which involves keeping TRUE-is buy a TRUE programme recorder which you can purchase for less than 5 thousand. You can then record only the better programmes such as decent movies or watchable documentaries, and view them when it suits you.

Good idea, but I think I can find more that interests me on the Internet.

I've only got the brochure in front of me, and can't really tell if it has radio or not.....the wife is not here to help me out. Sorry.

http://www.truevisio....aspx#trueworld

But I can't find radio.

On my remote, top left, is a "TV/Radio" button to change between the two.

You are prince among men. It works. I didn't know I had 100 radio stations. Most say DMX will be terminated and some say radio will be terminated Oct 9 or something like that.

I have always thought a good idea would be for TV stations to charge an annual fee to view on the internet, similar to a TV licence.

They would receive more revenue and the consumer would have total access to their programmes regardless of where you are located.

If they did not go silly with their fees, I am sure it would work.

If you want to watch American sports then get gold light or platnium packages to recieve ASN (all sports network). For some strange reason you dont get it with Gold.

You're not alone. I just dumped T Visions. They were on the phone days later offering all kinds of discounts, which I turned down. As many people have said, downloading off the net via torrents is the way to go. You get far more up to date programming than True ever shows, series, movies, concerts, reality shows, it's all out there. Get an up to date DVD player [ 2000baht would be an expensive one] and a 16 gb flashdrive and you're away. No more 1600 a month for True Visions 100 channels of rubbish.

I'm in the sticks to. I'm on Gold, mainly for BBC news and The F1 races. It covers my needs. I had Platinum when BBC Entertainment was on, I understand for a bit extra you can get additional programming without taking Platinum

Thanks for the replies Mosha and changmaikelley, I guess I'm leaning towards Gold, yet I see so many people rubbishing TrueVisions, it still leaves doubts in my head.......but I feel I don't really have any alternative, as mentioned I don't have a good internet connection.

Any positive feedback out there????

Just get the gold package. You switch the TV on and it's there, no fussing around with computers, connections, drop outs, setting this up with that etc etc. I came here for an easy life so I personally can't be bothered with all that crap and trust me, most people who come on here and rave about having perfect streaming programs, probably in all truth have nothing andd they just like to wind others up! The cost of the gold package is just 50 baht a day, the price of a small Chang. If you can't afford that then don't get it, but if you can, just put 50 baht a day in a tin (you won't miss it), put your feet up and relax whilst watching trouble free viewing.... and if you do have a problem it gets fixed quick. Let them all fiddle with their make believe contraptions.
