Turtle In The Temple

We have been trying to sell our house for a while now and it finally looks like we have a buyer. When he deposits the 5 million Baht into my bank account I will relax. Of course this has nothing to do with reducing the price till we are practically giving it away it is all thanks to Buddha. As such we had to go to the Temple this morning to pay thanks and give the monks lots of food etc. I don't mind really as it keeps the better half happy and after being married 4 times back home and once here I have finally discovered the secret to a happy marriage. it boils down to just two words

Any way after getting splashed with water and giving the monk our offerings the wife got talking to some friends who were there at the same time. I took a walk about as it is a nice temple.

it is the one just opposite the Honda dealership in Nathon just after the one way system on the left. I walked over to a water filled tank and found a huge, soft backed turtle in this tiny tank. Is there some religious significance to this being there ? it seems awfully cruel to keep such a lovely animal in such a small enclosure. I asked the wife but she didn't know. Does anyone here know ?

Could we approach the head monk with the view to releasing it back into the wild ? I will try to get some pictures to post in the next few days.

As said it seems so cruel to keep it there.
