Got this from http://community.skype.com/t5/Online-Number/Forward-mobile-to-skype-online/td-p/1059182

If your mobile is on a GSM mobile network (and not a WCDMA network), plus your mobile provider offers a cheap unlimited calling plan to another (one only) mobile of your choice, then this Mobigater (gateway) device may be what you need. Oops. URL post did not work . . .

(search for mobigater web site for info)

The Mobigater device uses a separate cell phone SIM card you buy and then you have it connected (as if the SIM card is your friend's cell phone number) to your cell phone as one special number to call and receive calls. Vodafone in my country call this "Best Mate" and for $6 we can make unlimited calls to this number, or vice versa.

The mobigater device will connect to your home PC, where it allows you to make calls and receive calls from your PC Skype to your cell phone via the Mobigater.

Another option is to use your home phone landline number to connect to Skype via a PSTN type gateway device. There used to be a few different landline gateways available 4 or 5 years ago, but not many available nowadays, as I guess the technology and ease of using Skype directly on your cellphone by a cellphone App is now so common. I personally still use my old Vosky Call Centre (PSTN - landline type) gateway to connect my home landline to my PC Skype plus my mobile service provider offers calling both ways between my home landline and cellphone unlimited calling at $10 per month. It's a great cheap way to connect my mobile to my Skype PC and it only drawback is the landline is busy while I receive or make calls to my home phone where my Vosky gateway connects to my PC and vice versa Skype PC connects to my cellphone via home landline and gateway. Unfortunately, my Vosky gateway home model version is no longer available on the market.

However, the Edimax Gateway for Skype seems to be a choice to look into. I have not used the Edimax Gateway device, but here it is.

(search for Edimax web site and then search their web site with key word "Skype")

These gateway devices, will simply allow you to use your home landline phone number, as well as your PC Skype and the home landline, to connect your cellphone to Skype on your home PC and vice versa receive Skype calls to your cellphone. I have been doing this gateway connection method for about 5 years now. All you need is your landline and mobile phone service to offer an unlimited calling plan between your home phone and cellphone to avoid the toll call costs.

Note. When the gateway connects your landline (and cellphone) to your PC Skype, the landline phone service have not control over your gateway by passing the landline service if they try to block you from passing the calls (diverting) from your cell phone to home landline to another phone number or source. smile_20.png

I hope these ideas help. While there may be no Skype Online numbers in Canada, you may be able to use your home landline phone number (or office landline phone number) connected to your Skype on your PC at home with a gateway.

.

Hope this helps?

I have an 18 month old Symbian Nokia E63 and I tried installing Skype on it, but the result was abysmal even though I'd updated with the latest Symbian and Skype software . Any attempts to make or receive voice or video calls cause an immediate crash. The only thing it can manage to do successfully on it is Skype text chat.

Not sure whether this is a general Skype-Symbian problem or something to do with old hardware compatibility on my device. I paid under 5000 baht for this Nokia, so perhaps shouldn't be expecting too much. At least I've got several VOIP apps working OK on it, so can send and receive international calls to/from landlines for next to nothing.

My samsung s3 makes great skype calls but is probably a bit expensive. I had an iphone 4s before this but like the samsung a lot more. Finally no more itunes and apple wont have a strangle hold on me.

But even if you have a good mobile phone you still need 3g connection from your provider to make the call any good.

Since Microsoft own Skype, my guess is both them and Nokia want you buying a Windows 8 phone, so don't expect it to be fixed on Symbian any time soon.
