Entertainment...TV, music, film...is one of the US's top exports. That is why they're always on about copyright matters.

Maybe top exports, but like China, most are of incredibly poor quality and copied off someone else..tongue.png

However I will say my favourite US exports are Family Guy, American Dad and the Simpsons and will accept these are completely home grown

If you google Endemol and look on wiki you will find some of the many programs that they have done, and most of them started in Europe.

Children's shows

Not too sure about your 'facts' as both the above are Australian shows ... or am I confused with your assumption?

If you google gargamel then little blue people will fill your screen....

The X Factor and American Idol, but 'The Voice' America's Got Talent', the bachelor, survivor, etc all started in the USA. Don't even attempt to try and compare whose more original, The US topples the UK in the creative department by a landslide.....

Not all of them orginated in the US, X-factor started in the UK, as did "America's got Talent" obviously called Britains got Talent, I beleive survivor was dutch, Big Brother was Dutch...and as for American idol...read it an weep...British show originally

http://en.wikipedia....i/American_Idol

Cant figure out whether you are trying to troll or just dont get out very often..

He is probably just an ... American

People there are also convinced that Airbus and Lexus are american brands ...

Laying claim to X-Factor etc is a kind of own goal, isn't it? We managed to export Simon Cowell across the pond, so don't go and spoil the moment!! whistling.gif

There are some though, that equalled or bettered the UK originals:

"Steptoe & Sons" became "Sanford & Sons".

"Til' Death Do We Part" became the classic "All in the Family".

Thats your opinion...the original Steptoe was streets ahead of Sanford & Sons in its humour

and you do know numerous shows you are stating as American, were actually British and the yanks stolen them off Simon Cowe, for a fee of course....whistling.gif

It's unbelievable how many British shows have been copied by the American's, which I don't mind but they take a good show, comedy or series and murder it!

And vice versa, perhaps? Unless "Bells of Brighton" was better than "Golden Girls"?

I'm a fan of Colbert, but I think his style of putting people on without them being aware of it is definitely Ali G.

For those of you who don't know, Redd Foxx was originally popular for his dirty humor record albums, titles like "You Gotta Wash Yo As_s!" that most record stores didn't carry -- if you didn't have any black friends (this is US, late 1950s onwards) you never heard of him. When word came out that he was going to have a television series we all thought it was a joke. Sanford & Son was based on Steptoe, but it was really vehicle for Foxx to tell toned-down versions of his jokes.

Next up is MOVIES AND MUSIC.........Australia has NOTHING. The UK aint Bad, but the USA has the best movies in the world!

That's a bit of an ethnocentric statement don't you think?

I am sure if it was put to a worldwide vote, Bollywood would trounce the yanks, as would the Hong Kong movie industry with all the Chinese votes.

Country music and gangsta rap disqualifies the US on any music front.

If you read the end credits is says from "Endemol Productions" owned by John de Mol, also the guy who did Big Brother, he lets countries use the ideas, and gets money for it.

BTW - He had a great looking wife "Linda de Mol"

Also most of the programs have started in Europe and then they go over the pond to America.

Read - The Voice is an American reality talent show that premiered on April 26, 2011, on the NBC television network. Based on the reality singing competition The Voice of Holland, the series was created by Dutch television producer John de Mol[2] and is executive produced by Mark Burnett. It is part of an international series. The Voice immediately proved to be a hit for NBC and as of September 2012, the network is airing the third season. The second season premiered February 5, 2012, immediately following NBC's broadcast of Super Bowl XLVI.

Yes, especially about the music, but man that Bollywood crap is completely repetitive and totally uncreative; as is much (not all) of China's contributions

You got to give the US credit for Hollywood, maybe not for edifying content, but definitely for continually raising the bar technologically and visually.
