BANGKOK: -- The family of Pol Snr Sgt-Major Wichien Klanprasert, who was run over by Red Bull heir Worrayuth Yoovidhya's Ferrari last month, have agreed to an out-of-court settlement of Bt3 million, police said.

Thong Lor investigator Pol Lt-Colonel Wiradol Taptimdee said police investigators were still waiting for detailed results after an initial blood test showed that Worrayuth might have consumed a narcotic substance. They are also waiting for forensic results on the car and the speed at which it was going when it hit the policeman's motorbike. Wiradol said the results should be revealed soon and the case should be concluded by the end of this month.

Pathetic, disgraceful, disgusting.....but what we all knew would happen.

That amount is probably just the repair cost to the Top End Ferrari the kid was driving. When you think about it - repair cost - value of dead cop's life - same same...

Fair enough, the family get their money, now can the city get him behind bars please!

It's the family that have agreed the amount. Doesn't even cover the cost of a decent house

I hope my family would consider £60,000 an insult if I was on the receiving end of something similar.

Settlement of what? Civil charges? Criminal charges?

Thong Lor investigator Pol Lt-Colonel Wiradol Taptimdee said police investigators were still waiting for detailed results after initial blood test showed that Worrayuth might have consumed a narcotic substance.

They are still waiting yeah? How are the odds that the results will get lost in the postal service

And of course this act of benevolence and kind consideration of others will offset any punishment handed down by the court... if ever it gets to that.

Which I doubt.

That is about 330 THB per day! (based on an average life expectancy 72.2 years for Thai Males, the police that was killed was 47)

Cheap deal at twice the price much like the family of the driver.

,3 million baht for a life,no doubt that will be covered in a twelve hour sales period..

Multiply by ten and then it might actually be worth something, however it isn't going to bring back the victim is it ?

Let's wait and see if the matter actually progresses to court and what if any the verdict and ensuing sentence may be.

Holy kii. B3 million. That should put a dent in the punk's spending for about..............half an hour.

As toybits says, probably the same as the repair costs to the killing machine.

These characters have no shame.

Where is the 'you're a turd' smiley?

What a ruddy disgrace bah.gif - I wouldn't have settled for less than 100M from that family, despite the fact that an out of court settlement was coming!

3M Baht? For a life?? To get off a young twi@t who wouldn't know his own dance pole if it hit him between the eyes?

I really do hope this is covered worldwide, in the media!

Time to REALLY stop buying their items for sale, and having a dig at Formula 1 every time Red Bull appears.

Disgusting course of events. Ultimately, and very sadly, a course of events that would only happen in this pit of hubbed corruption. ermm.gif

This wouldn't even be accepted in South Amercian countries.

THB 3 million from a net worth if THB160,000,000,000. Yep that's fair. The Justice System in Thailand is nothing short of pathetic where people get 18 years for defamation and 5 - 8 for murder. And when you have criminal acts such as culpable driving resulting in death whilst drug fuc*ed and drunk - a fine of 3M Baht. Holy sh*t!!! unsure.png

As stated above several times, this compensation for the family should be in addition to, not as apposed to, criminal charges.

Seems to be a bad deal for the family because the copper was in the rank of a senior sergant major.

I assume, that his annual wages until his retirement, would add up to more than the 3 Mio the family

has settled for.

Also the pension he would have received, when retiring, should have been considered as well.

Somebody should really advise them to cancel this agreement immediately and go for a higher amount.

The hate of the rich never stops for you guys at your stonetables outside 7-eleven.sad.png As some of the posters above are longstayers here, they should be well aware of this is the way doing things in Thailand, whether you are rich of poor. Go to your local policestation every day of the week, and you will see many accidents being settled by paying a few thousend bath to the victims. And the perpetrator and the victim leaving the copshop together, big wais and smiles all around, because most importantly, noone lost face.

Btw I think, that 3M baht is very generous for an unmarried cop with no kids, meaning the money will go to his aging parents, securing them some good last days. The Thai way, for better or worse!wai.gif

Ahh well the norm.. 3 million from that rich family is like a 100 baht to us.. shud av been made to pay 50 mill.

lol

3 million baht. What a joke. Me in my fantasy dreams actually thought the amount to pay of the victim's family would be a lot higher.

You can get thrown in the jug for posting something on the internet about someone, I read that the penalty for being an illegal tour guide is some obscene amount... but if you are loaded, or from a loaded family, you can kill a person with your car and basically be penalized pocket money. Pocket money does not hurt! Pathetic.

Sick words. No matter the way to do things.

So you accept that no change in corruption is welcome, and you just want to get on with the way things have been for centuries?

Do you have no sense of requiring, and giving examples, of the way things are and should be, with reference to 'democracy'?

3M is very generous from one of the richest families in Thailand?

I think you should go to 7/11, have another chilled drink, and comment again.... ? Or is loss of face more important to you than killing and paying off the poorer for it? :(

Sadly - to this guy - not even 1 Baht or a 10th or 1/100th of a Baht. As to Soi4's thinking this is a generous offer, my response to that is how pathetic. The restitution to the family is not about what a court orders or endorses, it is about doing the right thing. In this case, way off base.

However distasteful this is, the key point is here, the family have negotiated this amount, with all the publicity around this case, one assumes they could gone for a significant amount and yet they havent, they have been made an offer and accepted, no nowhere in the article does it say that the amount paid is a pay off in lieu of criminal proceedings...

So why dont you guys save your mock outrage for another day

lol

What you don't get here, is that is not money ordered paid by anyone. This money paid by the Red Bull family of their own free will! For a family that rich, ofcourse you can always discuss the amount?? But this has got nothing whatsoever to do with the upcoming courtcase. As for the internet-thing, I agree with you 100%.

The money that has been paid will be under the courts mediation process, designed to see if those involved can come to some form of agreement without the issue of compensation going to court. I imagine the family did not even have legal representation, they would have just sat around the table. What is disappointing is that the Father of the alleged criminal - who was handed this fortune on a plate, has shown absolutely no remorse whatsoever by offering an amount that is probably not even equal to a weekends spending, it certainly is less than the profit the offender will make from the sale of 1 super car at his showroom. To the policeman's family it may be a sizable amount, but in this case the amount offered should have been an indication of their sorrow and based on their means. I think if I had 160 Billion in the bank and my son was the offender then I would have started at 100 M and prepared to go higher, and the son would have worked until it was paid back. Even 100M is chump change with 160 B in the bank. The red bull family have certainly not satisfied the universes karma, so in the end there will be a reckoning.

I wonder why the police are still waiting for the reports on the blood tests whistling.gif

I hope the young man does some prison time now, but I won't hold my breath.

Surprising that none of the people that get screwed over like this by the rich, never seem to want revenge??

well thank you George osbourne ,....my guess is if you had your way you would take away the stone tables and glasses as they are unnecessary luxury items , we will sit on the floor until assisted by the rich to get on our feet again, ......Its people looking down on others that is problem here, from yourself to the red bull family and the rich the world over who IMO can never justify what they earn ,but think an hour of their salary is = to a mans life ....3M is quite generous if your a "normal average joe " thai,........ but where is the compassion and conscience of these out of touch leaches,.....because this is thailand and that its usually done this way DOES'NT MAKE IT RIGHT

Do you think the policeman's family negotiated this amount without exterior pressure?
