Every body needs good neighbours!

But how many of our threads are committed to denigrating our fellows?

Let;s make a list, on the one hand, of the thrreads dedicated to denigrating our neighbours, and on the other hand, to buidling up and complimeniting our neighbours.

I'll start with one of each, by way of example; please copy and paste the lists, and add to them:

Good Neighbours

"this photo taken outside our place really took my eye"

Surrounded by Degenerates

" I've certainly noticed more than a few "undesirables" here"

How is a picture of a sunset about your neighbours ?..sorry missed something somewhere.blink.png

It was a post commending the photographic skills of someone else (and subsequent posts echoing that sentiment,

If you had understood your bible, you would know that Samaritans, or anyone else, could be your neighbour, and it was not to be interpreted in a narrow view with respect to land titles

So we've not yet had any specific responses to the original post, but a lot of people highlighting that, contrary to the teachings of Christ that more or less underpin our societies, we see 'neighbours' strictly from the viewpoint of land title, and our view is to keep them out, rather than to form a community. I wonder what Thai people would think about "neighbours"?

Thanks for that cup of tea SC....andI'll return your lawnmower next time I see you.

I see you're managing fine for the moment with the rusty scythe. wink.png

Don;t get me started on lawnmowers - I', sure you all know that joke.

I had a petrol flymo that took longer to start than to mow the lawns;

I can't smell two-stroke without thinking of cut summer grass

I got some good neighbors here and some bad ones, just like where i came from. Can't say they are much worse then back home. Actually a lot of friendly people just like back home. Must be because i live in a smaller gated village and people know each other.

I sometimes sit down some of them and chat a bit to improve on my Thai. Bring something for some of them and get some stuff back. Actually just nice people, if you are nice to people they will be nice back in general.

They wouldn't like foreigners or anyone darker/ poorer than them.

I'm the same. I;d hate to have neighbours worse than me - although I suppose it would make keeping up with the Jones easier. I'm lucky, back in the Old Country, that our tenament is the worst in the street, though perhaps sadly, our apartment and our tenants are not the worst in the stair\

I never even used to clean out the milk bottles.

My neighbours hated me.

And so they should hate you.... Jeezo, Smokie, how low can you get? Drug-fueled orgies with loud music and fornication in the close into the wee small hours... No problem. Rusted cars in the street.... OK Rampant Rotties and Pit-bulls barking at all hours, then eating local kiddies... I can live with that. BUT NOT WASHING YOUR MILK BOTTLES???? That's just not cricket, old boy! whistling.gif

The neighbours on both sides are Thai. On the left is a business and on the right is a family. The house with the family are no problem at all. Some of them speak English and are happy to converse at times. No noise or other problems.

The business on the other hand used to be a different matter altogether and I've had a couple of run ins with them in the past (used the then Issan g/f to have words with them after my being polite did not work) and just recently they seem to have become more amenable.

There are a few different foreigners in the street and most of them fall into two groups. Those that will smile, say hello and be generally amenable and those that walk around without a smile on their faces never mind an acknowledgement of their fellow neighbours.

All in all a mixed bag but certainly no trouble.

Maybe I've been lucky but I've only ever had 2 disagreeable neighbours in all the town houses I've lived in over the years. A nod and a smile seem to go a long way.

I'm lucky in that my nearest neighbours are relatives of my landlord - and they live far enough away for neither of us to hear each other plus, we are respectful of each other. At least I hope they like me and at least appreciate that I don't cause them any problems!

I've never had any problems with any of my neighbours anywhere. The closest I came to a problem was a woman who lived next door in a previous house who, for some obscure reason, was always looking for me to tell me how wealthy her family were/how clever she was to get money from her husband in the UK etc. etc.... I was reduced to avoiding her like the plague, which was extremely annoying as I'd have liked to have been able to sit out on my patio.

Edit - BUT, like everywhere else, its gradually becoming more built-up and condos are being built a few hundred metres away. I can't see them, but I can hear them (presumably the construction workers) playing loud music v late at night when I go to bed. THEY are definitely neighbours I could do without!

Talking about bad neighbours, in the end I moved out of my old apartment, when the road layout got changed to make the illegal right turn impossible; the perils of living near to the Palace, I suppose.

That, and the metro station I'll be building out front....
