Foreigner Shot Dead In Saraburi

It seems to be every other day these news. A foreigner murdered by a local(which in this case it is not proven, but if it is 'the usual business' , I assume it is the case.)

Very sad the way thailand is going down the drains,also because they rely so much on tourists and foreigners economically.

I once wished to go to thailand to live, but after reading this forum, I would never do it. In fact , I would not even go there on holiday, I think.

It seems like a society gone mentally ill.

On one hand they do anything to appear white, on the other hand there is a real hatred for foreigners.

Now, if i was male, I would NEVER marry a thai, because how can you be really sure?

Don't know what the attitudes towards white females are, but there sure are a lot of attacks on those, too.

Luckily, Asia is large and there are plenty other countries to choose from. As it is now, Thailand would be at the very bottom of my list. Such a beautiful country, but such ugly mentality. Really sad.

Have you witnessed this underlying hatred or mistrust of white tourists or those who choose to live there to which you allude?

Admittedly my wife and I have only travelled to Thailand three times for periods ranging from 3-5 weeks and with our fourth trip being in April 2013, I must have missed something which you have obviously experienced.

We have travelled to several parts of Thailand by car, train and (local) bus: Bangkok, Chaing Mai, Kanchanaburi, Krabi and Phuket and surrounding areas as well as a place in the mountains (the name of which I can't for the life of me remember) where one of our friends - an Australian - has built road and power infrastructure, assisted the local school in recruiting English-language teachers and employed around 30 locals in his building and running of a brand new distillery. We were welcomed openly and not a hint of negativity was evidenced by either of us.

Of course, I have read the papers reporting on violence against westerners (Daniel Katz the martial artist, Michelle Smith the travel agent, that drunk tool who mouthed off to a bunch of tuktuk drivers in Patong, and this poor bloke) I haven't felt or witnessed any form of threat from any Thai person.

I own a security analysis and risk assessment company. I have over 25 years in threat assessment and personal protection. I think I would have seen things. I have felt comfortable with my wife walk around Phuket, Krabi and Kanchanaburi alone. Not at night, obviously, as that is when you have to worry about drunk tourists and the standard gamut of unsavoury characters who prey in the dark that you get in any town.

Another friend who lives there says that while violence toward westerners by Thais does exist, it is usually due to some issue with an ex-pat who has married into the family (and brought dishonour in some manner) or someone having dodgy "business" dealings. Most violence against "whites" (read here: English, Australian, Russian and Scandinavian people) is perpetrated by other tourists. Hence the "Tourist Police" in Phuket - who are predominantly white people - who have little to no authority over Thais - that have certain powers to deal with ex-pats.

It is my opinion you have not added value to this discussion. May I suggest you leave this forum and join on of the Cambodia or Vietnam forums instead? They are becoming very "in" tourist destinations and your superior insight into Asia's psyche would be most welcome.

As a longer stayer than some, it pays to keep your eyes and ears open where ever you are in the world. I think the issue may well be that foreigners are increasing in number and have spread way way beyond where they were even 10 years. 10 years ago, there was one foreign bar in the town where I live, today, there are a raft of bars in the centre of town and the stories of fights among the foreigners are getting more and more frequent. Going hand in hand with that, as the amount of beer increases so do the fights with locals. What was a sleepy place for foreigners has more and more places catering for them and these bars aren't exactly subtle about it.

In the last year I have heard of at least 3 foreign blokes who have been beaten within an inch of their lives in town, being out on the p**s and saying the wrong thing to groups of thai youths, tuk tuk drivers.

The bigger issue is I believe also, that things when they do go wrong here escalate way beyond at least what I remember experiencing in my home country. It isn't settled with a single punch and a bit of a scuffle, it ramps up very quickly to a group setting themselves on a single person, or knives and guns.

One on one, it appears a fair fight until someone brings a gun or a knife, or 10 of his mates to give you a good shoeing, so my advice is always to walk away. As for this story, well, who knows why it happened, it could be anyone of 10 reasons, so lets wait and see, but it could well turn out to be something that from a foreign perspective is relatively minor, and this is what makes it appear so brutal.

But this is the way it is here, keep your nose out of problems and don't annoy the locals, and you can live in peace and harmony for ever. Flash your lights at the wrong guy, or beep your horn in the wrong place, flirt with the wrong girl, do business with the wrong people, and occasionally, it gets settled in a very very final manner. Don't expect a measured response when a Thai person gets angry.

Indeed, my missus has a relative who is in the forensics. They were all over the case of the foreigner in Banphai recently, and with a bit of searching of phone records and the such, connected the dots to the wife. Whilst i know they aren't exactly CSI from the TV, they do what they can with what they have in terms of equipment, and this relative of my wife has been to the US several times for training with the US police and also has attended many seminars for training from the US police in Bangkok. They aren't nearly as keystone cops as you may think. The issue comes in terms of how much the very senior bosses of any case want to proceed, and ordinarily when it comes to foreigners it very much depends how much initial publicity occurs, and how much the respective embassy wants to get involved and bring a bit of a beedy eye to proceedings to make sure something keeps moving. You would be amazed how much information they gleen from informants and local gossip, and they basically know who is up to what in any significant way. Problem is, ordinarily the big guys get paid massively to turn a blind eye to so much stuff, that it is basically impossible for an underling to stick their nose into something if the boss doesn't want it to happen, but not all the head coppers are on the take, there are some who are very reliable.

I hear there is a new guy moving down to Chonburi very soon to clean up the Thai and foreign mafia down there. Watch this space, it ain't going to be pretty.

To be perfectly frank, Pornthip covered herself in nothing but doo doo over the bomb detector and her investigations over the police activity in various cases. She is viewed with a lot of distrust by the coppers over her political bias and attitude towards seeking the limelight over issues she has essentially nothing to do with.

Thais don't try to appear "white" to emulate "white" foreigners. It's to appear more like the Chinese/Koreans.

White Foreigner Killed And Body Dumped In Saraburi

SARABURI:--An unidentified body that appeared to be a white European male in his 40s was found dumped near a foothill in Saraburi province. The man was wearing only his underwear and had been beaten and shot in the mouth.

SARABURI – September 30, 2012 [PDN]: at 11:30 a.m., a report of the body of a white man being found was received by Pol. Lt. Col. Yam Lekmanee, detective inspector of Kaeng Khoi police station. A police team went to check the scene, with Pol. Col. Jakkrit Weeradej, the director of the police station, Dr. Prasit Chaimingjit, director of Kaeng Khoi hospital; and the Ruamkatanyu foundation staff.

The man’s body had been left at Wiriya foothill, behind Khao Kaeo village, 80 meters from Sangkoi-Banna route, moo 4, Tamaprang, Kaeng Khoi, Saraburi province.

At the scene, police discovered the body of an unidentified white man, about 40 years old. The man seemed to be European, and had a receding hairline. The man was lying on his side, his face down to the ground. There was a gunshot wound in his mouth that broke three teeth. The bullets had passed through the back of his head, and there were many bruises all over his body.

The man was found wearing only gray Wool World label bikini underwear stained with fecal matter. He also had a steel automatic watch on his left wrist. The doctor said he had been dead for more than 10 hours, so the body was sent to the forensic division to perform an autopsy.

Police examined the area, and about 5 meters from the body, they discovered a shallow, newly-dug rectangular hole under a bush. The hole was about 24 cm deep, and the hole’s length and width matched the dimensions of a human body. About 20 meters from the body, in a flat area of the foothill, police found a leather shoe, and near the shoe were some tire tracks that appeared to be from a pickup truck, so the police collected the evidence.

Oswald Heinrich is a 50 year old south african who was working as a manager for a design company.

He was out with a group of 6 friend at a restaurant until 1am on the 29th september. He then left with his female work friend in a taxi and return to where they were staying. The next day Ozwald caught a train back to pick up his vehicle that he left with a friend the night before cuz he was too intoxicated to drive. At 1300hrs he call to tell his female friend that he was going to see his 3 year old son from a previous wife. That was the last time he was seen or heard of.

Until his female friend nang sao Ari heard of the death of a foreigner male in kaeng Khoi therefore she contacted the police immediately.

Well looks like the police have a pretty firm suspect, if the investigation does link the ex to the murder I hope they throw the book at her.

NewlyMintedThai, your response to this is surprising. I am truly hoping that I have somehow misinterpreted your tone. What I take from your response is that because he was South African, nobody should be shocked as we are accustomed to murder/violence. As a South African, I can tell you that each and every reported violent crime in our country is met with shock, dismay, sadness, outrage...never 'ah well it is South Africa'. Your comment saddens me immensely.

I would like to also clarify that I have lived in Thailand for 10 years, so am no romantic as to the goings on here, but a person has died a sad and violent death and many of the posters here have hijacked that to air their personal prejudices and opinions, with very few facts. I do not, obviously, refer to every poster.

What it is not is "newsworthy to the world media", as some are suggesting. No more so than the many other murders in Thailand on any given day, just because it is a farang.

If it does turn out that she was involved, it is the poor 3 yr old boy who becomes the ultimate victim. Mum has dad put down and mum goes to jail. What becomes of the poor child?

Thats the really sad part about all this, a little boy has lost his dad and may soon lose his mum too, he has done nothing wrong but he gets the worst out of the whole thing.

I know the victim well. He was a much respected and liked member of Thailands cricket community. He was generous with his time and philantropic.
