PM begins to curb poverty in Bangkok

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has kicked off his poverty eradication mission in Bangkok, and KLONG TOEY (คลองเตย) community is the first pilot area.

The premier immediately started to work out the poverty issues in the area once he arrived in KLONG TOEY community. He visited the locals who have been affected from various social problems and also granted 2,000 baht to each family there. Later, he will acknowledge environmental, debt and land problems in this community.

This is the premier’s first time in visiting a poverty-stricken community in the capital. Meanwhile, the local people expressed enthusiasm and gave warm welcomed to Dr. Thaksin.

The Prime Minister had a conversation with the locals in KLONG TOEY until 12:00 hours today.

PM Thaksin led delegation of ministers to Klong Toey region, in an attempt to address the poverty problem there

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has led his delegation of ministers to Klong Toey (คลองเตย) community in Bangkok, to address the poverty problem in the area.

Prime Minister Thaksin and related ministers have met with residents in Klong Toey District, with Islamic community members and handicapped people welcoming the delegation. The people presented the ministers with moral support, saying that working people are bound to make mistakes and those who do not work would not make mistakes. They also asked the premier to remain in his position and continue assisting the poor.

Prime Minister Thaksin found elderly people who had to live under expressways, and has assigned the Social Development and Human Security Ministry to address this problem. He also ordered a 300,000 baht budget to be used for constructing a exercise center in the community.
