hey guys, hope you are well,

i have been in thailand for the last 18 months and in that time my passport has got 80% or so full.... i was on a business visa, so was having to leave the country every 3 months and went to cambodia (full page stamp) a couple of times etc

i am now on a married visa, but have yet to do my 3 month reporting

i am back in uk for a few weeks now, and was wondering if i need to get a new passport

the passport was filling up very quickly over the last 18 months, but now i am on married visa, maybe it will not fill so quickly?

do they stamp the passport each time i report, or will the just stamp the reporting form that has been stapled in?

i have 5 and a half pages left, and this time i am coming back to thailand for 6 - 9 months, with maybe a trip to china, or malaysia during that time

the cost for a new jumbo sized 48 page passport is £90

any advice guys? am i better off playing it safe, or should i gamble i dont fill it? when i come back to thailand in a few weeks i will get my entry stamp, then as long as i dont get any more full page stamps / stickers i should be fine shouldnt i??

enjoy thailand, its freezing here wai.gif

The price in the UK is considerable lower than the price you will have to fork out here.

You say you have a marriage extension and not done your 90day reporting yet, well count 90 days from your arrival in Thailand and then go to Immigration, no stamps in your passport just on a piece of paper stapled into your passport. (Hope you got yourself a re-entry permit).

Malaysia is a small stamp, so no problems there, just remember re-entry permits.

If you get a new UK passport you get a maximum of 6 months added to the 10 year validity of your new one.

If you do the passport here, after getting the new passport go to your local Immigration office and they will do all the moving of the stamps that are required, takes about 1.5 to 2 pages up.

You can almost renew your Passport twice in the UK for the price that you will be charged to renew it whilst in Thailand.

If you are only going to China and Malaysia you should be ok as long as you tell the immigration where to put the stamps rather than letting them put a stamp right in the middle of a new page!

If you over compensate and go 1/2 page for Thai stamp, 2 pages for China trip, 1 page for malaysia you will still have 2 pages left. you should be ok as no stamps are needed for reporting.

P.S Just incase you didnt know if you are already in UK then the next time you need to report is 90 days after you arrive back in Thailand.

And if you get a new passport they will carry forward up to 10 months unused time from your old passport, at least that's what they did when I replaced mine.

You can have two passports so apply for 2nd passport in UK without cancellation of your old, passport

You will need a letter confirming that you travel frequently in Asia and from time to time need to apply for visas for passport number 2 sometimes when you are travelling on passport number 1.

thanks for great advice guys..... gave me lots to consider.... much appreciated

i spoke to the passport office here in uk, and they said that applying for a second passport required a letter from my employer, and it was generally "quite difficult to get a second passport"

so i am still weighing up my options

your help has been much appreciated thumbsup.gif
