Abs Standard?

Featured Replies

Hi all ,

I want to buy a new pickup when we get back to Thai in Dec ,looking at the Thai red book at prices and some brands like isuzu say ABS after some models but other brands dont say ,so do some have ABS standard or is it an extra on all brands ?

Also what pickup would you buy at the lowest end ,I am thinking the Isuzu ,rwd with abs manual 4 door .in the redbook says about 700k.

thanks

I dont think you can buy a vehicle now of any kind that does not come with ABS as a standard feature. If you find one dont buy it. There are a lot of Pickup's to look at but I personally have an ISUZU here in Thailand and another one back in OZ. Have never had a problem with either in 7yrs, just traded in the old one on a new ISUZU in Thailand and the one in OZ has just had it's second rego put on it. Servicing is good and cheap in Thai, but expensive in OZ. as is everything in OZ.

Many pickups and also many of the smaller, basic sedans don't have ABS as a standard feature.

Most "basic" spec cars here don't have ABS or Airbags. Lots of used cars don't have airbags either as they get removed and sold on.

If one wants to harp on about safety. If you have more than one vehicle that you drive routinely both or none should have ABS.

We had a similar topic a while back with plenty of info. I thought ABS would be fitted in all new rides but seems not. UK it is law.

If your not sure the dealer is being truthful, look under the hood and you will see a box like thing with brake lines going in and out of it, thats the ABS gadget. If the brake lines leave the master cylinder and disappear towards the wheels, then it doesn't have ABS.

Some brands do not include ABS after the model name. Redbook is also not 100% up to date.

Toyota, Mitsu and Nissan web sites have prices and specs that tell you what model get what features. Generally the lower model pickups do not have ABS or airbags, but the upper models do. The Isuzu web site is bad, so Transams suggestion would be the best bet for them, if you can find an example of the model you want.
