I installed the Polish Jelly Bean Rom on my S3 and everything seems to be working fine except that it is a little sluggish sometimes.

Have been using it since the ROM was first available and finally got tired of the stutter and decided to go back to the Official Thai Rom (ICS) that I got from

Sammobile.com.

Anyway, to make a long story short, it doesn't seem possible to go back

I use ODIN and after flashing it gets stuck on the black screen with the SAMSUNG on it and a blue led is lit.

There is no way to get it to start from there.

I thought I had bricked it, but was able to flash back to the Polish ROM and now it is up and working again.

I would like to get back to the official Thai ICS and eventually upgrade to JB from there, can somebody help please

My version now is

AP i9300XXDLIB

CP i9300XXDLIB

CSC i9300OXFDLI1

Baseband i9300XXDLIB

One other thing, I asked about changing the CSC in the Note2 thread because my mobile data wasn't working.

I have got it working now. AIS had advised me to put CHAP as the Authentication Type in the access point settings and changing that to "none" got the mobile data to work.

EDIT Actually I seem to have been premature, the mobile data is working sort of, but very erratic.

Do you happen to know if you have an I9300? Or an I9300T? You may have to look at the original box.

I suspect there may be some issue with the file you got from Sammobile? But that is just a guess.

I am talking about the SGS3

and it has problems connecting to websites. I get the H+ symbol alright, but if I want to connect to Speedtest for example to check that everything is working I may have to try up to five times until I can get a connection to try. That is using the Speedtest app BTW.

Using mobile data i can forget connecting to Youtube it times out before i have a connection.

I used ODIN, but CHEKFUSDOWNLOADER app has never worked for me, I only get "No firmware info found".

Based on what little detail you've provided, it sounds like your ISP has some issues. I assume you can run other apps. which utilize the mobile data network? I assume you can use a browser?

Which service provider do you use? Did your phone ever work satisfactorily? I assume you have the APN configured properly? Have balance and validity? Have selected a data plan?

Loma,

Yes I can run other apps i.e Whatsapp or Line, but they are much slower than they should be. There seem to be a delay in sending or receiving data.

I have to confess to almost never using Mobile data (I'm almost constantly in WIFI coverage) thus i'm not sure when it started to behave badly. I started to suspect something was wrong and have bought a 24 hrs 3G package from AIS to check it out.

As for being able to use the browser, yes it is usable but it takes several tries to get to an URL. Loading Thaivisa is almost impossible.

I think I have APN configured correctly, but i had noticed a differnce in the APN settings with my P7500 and asked AIS what i should have as Authentication Type, they advised me to put "CHAP" and not "PAP" as I had in my TAB. Anyway, changing "CHAP' to "NONE" got the Mobile Data to work better, but it is still very erratic.

Am downloading a new Thai Rom from checkfus now, will try and see if it works any better.

Hey Loma,

Actually the 24 hrs Mao Mao 3G package gives full speed 3G 140 MB and after that unlimited EDGE. Enough for testing

I just now managed to get a connection with Speedtest app and got Ping117, Down 1.23, and UP 0.35 to BKK. Definately not as fast as it should be, but faster than EDGE

No luck with flashing back to ICS with the ROM from CHECKFUSDOWNLOADER either, it is hanging on the SAMSUNG screen with the blue LED lit.

Are there anything that should be "cleaned out" before "downgrading"? Wiping anything maybe?

Typically one would boot into CWM /Recovery, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe Dalvik cache (in Advanced), but I am not familiar with nuances of the SGS3, and your Polish ROM.

Regarding AIS, their network is over-subscribed, and they do roam subscribers onto TOT's 2100 MHz 3G network. Depending on your exact location 1.23 Mbps might not be considered so bad?

I do see the Mao Mao daily data package does appear to offer 140 MB of fair-use at true 3G speeds, but after 140 MB it looks like the speed may be limited - terms and condition mention GPRS which would be quite a severe limit. Maybe it just falls back to 384 Kbps? Don't use up all your data doing speedtests. ;)

CWM/Recovery is only for rooted handsets right? Mine isn't rooted yet and I haven't seen any compelling reason to root it yet.

Would flashing a UK JB ROM, or any other country, bring any benefit?

The reson I wanted to "downgrade" in the first place was that I feel that the JB in this ROM is laggy. It actually stutters in some apps where it didn't under ICS. Just switching between Whatsapp and Twitter feels really laggy.

Do we know about any country's ROM that usually plays well with the Thai specs?

Perhaps a different JB ROM might flash? MAybe more luck with that than regressing to ICS which may be what is causing your issue(s)? Maybe you can do something with KiES? Or maybe look for a solution on XDA?

Presumably the current stock firmware for Thailand?

Is CHECKFUSDOWNLOADER the best "place" to get another JB ROM to try?

It's not clear to me there is any official 4.1 release yet?

Maybe just stay in Poland, or try another 4.1 leak?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835931

Then wait for the official Thai 4.1 release? Or root and try different modems via CWM?

I can tell you that once you find a decent baseband/modem, and it can take forever, you are advised to not muck around after that. Somehow I got very lucky with my SGS2 (4.1.1 Google -based custom ROM), running I9100DXLPA. Will not be changing this for a long time.

ICS works very well on my S3 so I don't see any good reason to change.at this point. Maybe the latest and the greatest is not as good as what I have.

I definitely think that the JB from Poland works very well except for some lag in switching between SOME apps. Maybe the 3G isn't as slow as I thought, but due to AIS over subscription as Loma suggested. I'll have to check next time I'm in an area with good speed and coverage and have another 3Ghandset to compare with.

I got a copy of the Swedish JB ROM last night and will try it out today. If that doesn't show any improvement I'll wait for the official Thai ROM.

Does anyone else have their S3 running on a stock JB?

There are significant improvements with 4.1 but not sure how many of those will shine through once Samsung bloats it up?

I've been running AOSP 4.1.1. for a few months on my SGS2 and it is incredible.

However, I always advise family, friends, colleagues to hold off upgrading for a few months - especially if they are happy with their current release. Better to let others sort through the issues.

This thread has I9300/I9300T modems but not sure which are ideal for the unit, and service provider?

You can test each one until you find one which works best with your service provider.

I did a lot of research and read a lot of reports and reviews about upgrading to Jellybean. The upgrade is not supposed to affect any applications you have, nor any settings.

I must be getting bolder and more adventurous in my old age. I was happy with ICS but went ahead and did the upgrade to Jellybean. All my settings and applications were not affected. Everything looks like it works as before except for the added tweaks and small differences.

I don't know if I gained anything or not at this point. It was a smooth upgrade. And yes, it is the Polish stock Jellybean.

Oldtimer (joke) you are more bold then me i am just waiting for the Kies system to let me upgrade it. But happy to hear it works for you. I am curious about the new upgrade if only because people praise it.

Update: I switched out my Polish ROM for a Swedish Rom from sammobile.com and it is much better. No lag and and generally smoother. The radio seems to be about the same, I get around 1.2 Mb in download. That may well be because of AIS as Lomatopo suggested.

On the Polish ROM I had serious lag switching from any app using Swiftkey 3 keyboard to the Dialer or any other non keyboard app. On this ROM there is no such lag at all.

Swiftkey 3 is highly recommended BTW.

So far so good

I think the default Google 4.1 keyboard does what Swiftkey does, maybe better but not sure if you get that with a Samsung ROM?

But given the speech to text engine in 4.1 I actually find myself rarely using a keyboard - it seems so antiquated now.

Unfortunately you don't get the google keyboard, but a Samsung one.

Any idea where I can find the google keyboard to flash or just as an apk?

I used Odin to upgrade to JB 4.1.1. Everything works great except a Kies glitch. I can swap things back and forth between the phone and my computer and can do backups. The strange thing is that it now gives me the message that my device does not support software upgrading via Kies. My device status is "Normal".

That is because you now have a different country code. You have to update via Odin or change the country code, but then you will wipe your phone. A backup is advisable

I can answer my own question about the Jelly Bean Keyboard. It is on Play Store, but doesn't come up if you search for "Jelly Bean Keyboard" have to search for "Jelly Bean Keyboard vllwp". It seems very good

I'm certainly NOT going to wipe my phone just so I can use Kies for updates that are always way behind anyways.
