Dealership Scam

Hi guys,

I booked a ford ranger back in april. The contract says I get it at the lastest October. Well basically I found out that I was scammed. The saleslady wrote up a fake contract and her dealership had no record of my booking. Since April she was leading me on with a bunch of BS until I called the manager of the dealership and found out this lady had already been fired like 5 months ago. Now I'm in the process of trying to get some accountability from parties involved....whatever I can do.

Has anybody had similar experiences? Tell me your stories. Advice/sugggestions?

Thanks.

You been cheated out of 5000 bath and Ford won't help you?? Is your booking considered paid by Ford or do you have to book again and pay another 5000 and get your car most likely next year?

If they wont help (which they should) then you will have to make a complaint at the police station about the sales "lady" and Ford should get involved and provide id card details as a minimum.

If you have a receipt from Ford for the deposit paid you will be ok if not forget it. Even with receipt it will be a drawn out process if the manager doesn't play ball just file a police report as I said you need a receipt. I had same problem in Samui bigger amount but I had the cashier cheque details and also details from bank showing it had been deposited to Toyota account but the staff still skimmed Toyota the sales girl is now in court being prosecuted by Toyota and the manager who was in charge at the time has been moved.

I am definitely getting Ford Thailand itself involved in this. This is basically what I wrote to my friend so he can help me deal with Ford since his company uses Ford trucks and has had to deal with Ford on many occasions:

April

-Wanicha Meetom (scammer) comes to my house to set up a booking contract with me. Paid 5000. The general contents of the contract are as follows: Truck price 779,000 along with promotional benefits of free first class insurance for the first year, expected delivery month 9-10 (sept-oct). I submitted to her documents for finance (ID, bank book records going back six months, etc.).

-After a month and half or so, I ask her about the status of my finance and she claims it has been going slow, that the officer at TISCO handling my case hasn’t been able to work efficiently for various reasons. Later on she claims that the finance officer lost all my documents and that she needs to resubmit new copies. It’s going to be quite a few months before I get the truck according to the contract so I don’t press much.

August

-She comes to my house and picks up the copies all over again claiming that my case has been referred to another officer, and picks up the second set of copies. All along from the beginning she has reassured me that finance would be taken care of in a matter of just a few weeks.

-She calls one day and says there’s an aurora blue truck available if I wanted it now and I refuse because I want gunmetal blue. She claims Ford has been having issues with production and delivery, bla bla, and that delivery might be later than October because there aren’t enough trucks, as if implying I don’t get this ugly blue one I’ll be waiting a while. Later that SAME day, she offers a red truck. I decline once again, wanting my original color choice.

September

-She notifies me that my finance has passed and wanted to pick up a few more documents which she has already taken as part of the second set of copies given to her in August. She never comes for them and keeps putting it off. I’m thinking this inefficiency and mess is just typical Thai BS and it is fine cos I don’t ever have to go to her or the dealer to give these documents, she comes to my place.

-I call and ask when she’s going to come and get the extra documents and she says finance will call me in a week citing their protocol. I never get that call. I figure finance is irrespective of truck delivery because some people have their cars waiting ready for pickup at some showrooms but are waiting for their finance to pass or just forget about it and let the dealer give them to someone else. Since it has already passed I figure push for processing when Wanicha notifies me ahead of time of the truck’s arrival. I am aware that once the truck arrives they still have to install accessories like film and liners so it’s not like I can go and get it right away.

October

-I call numerous times asking about my truck with suspicions implied surrounding paperwork/finance and ford factory issues she claims it has. Her excuse used to be ford suppliers not being able to pick up from the floods so ford stalls. Now it’s that ford has reallocated labor to focus on the new ford focus sedan and not enough capacity for the trucks. I ask about ford’s procedures/ nature of manufacture-delivery with respect to the booking dates that dealerships (especially Romklao) submit in their orders and she is literally speechless and cannot tell me except for “don’t worry”.

-I send her a message in English pestering about my truck. A few days later I get a message in Thai saying “I will try to get your truck on time but if it doesn’t work out I am happy to return your 5000”.

-Her message prompts me to call Romklao and speak to the manager that evening. He says she’s been fired for two months. I describe whatever I could remember on the contract and he says it’s fake. They have no record of my booking. Truck price has gone up 20,000. (in that call he said 10,000 but he misquoted or lied dunno. I checked myself and it’s indeed up 20,000). He says she was fired because she had been caught scamming others as well. We both agree to file a police report together soon and he assures me he will try his best to get me the booking price. In the meantime he wants to call Wanicha. Called Wanicha myself to tell her off. Basically she claims she can still get me the truck as an ex-employee which is BS. She never addresses my knowledge of her scam directly. I demand she returns 5000, pay 20,000 for first class insurance premium I just lost, and pay the difference for the price increase. She says she can’t afford it yadda yadda…. and I threaten to call the cops. I ask about all my personal documents and bank info that she has in her hands and her intentions with them…she says don’t worry bla bla. Nothing I can do about that anyway.

-Manager calls back turns out he has spoken to Wanicha and supposedly tells her off and demands she return 5000 and make up for my promotional benefits that have been lost or else he’ll call the cops too.

-Then manager says later he can shave off 10,000 from the price (which is evident in the booking contract he snapped a picture of and sent me a few days ago….said he’ll mail the hard copy to me) and has supposedly demanded Wanicha cough up the other 10,000.

-Later on the phone Wanicha says she just spoke to the manager and that “she will help with 10,000 so the new price comes down 10,000” when in fact that 10,000 she refers to is the dealer’s own expense, pathetically thinking I’ll believe that first 10,000 is from her. She is still responsible for the other 10,000. She hangs up.

-Regarding the former, manager says he is still waiting for a response from her on her 10,000 with the cop threat. He now says he’d rather not call the cops as the cops will not do anything…pushing for them to do anything will cost, lawyer’s fees, etc.

(I had no comment about his backing out on the cops cos I’m thinking I’ll do it myself anyway and the burden which he does not want will be just mine, which is fine. I expect no burden anyway because I do believe the cops won’t give a crap. Report is filed and remains as paper on some cop’s desk. If they do go after her, then win, whatever)

-Later informs that Wanicha has at least wired back 5000 but to the dealership which I do not immediately believe.

(the fact that Wanicha still generally answers calls and calls on her own accord lead me to believe she’s been running around trying to fix it because she’s probably taking the cop threat seriously, except she’s thinking hard how she’s gonna get the money. So maybe it’s going somewhere. I plan to go to the cops anyway whether she coughs up 10,000 or not).

-On phone Wanicha says that she did take care of the finance so got Wanicha to give up a name at TISCO. Call to verify and finance was in fact filed and processed, according to this officer whose name Wanicha gave at least. This person could be Wanicha’s friend sitting on a couch somewhere who knows.

-Mentioned it to manager he calls back and supposedly verified it himself that finance is real.

(I wondered why she even bothered filing it when she was scamming me all along. Perhaps so that in case I check and it’s real I don’t get suspicious, while the truck was never coming)

-26th Oct. I receive an image on my phone of the contract manager prepared which is supposed to be legit now. It indicates that I have already paid 5000 also explicitly showing he took off 10,000:

-On the phone says he’ll mail it “fast mail” which I assume it’s EMS. Asked how plausible his word on December really is (I’m thinking the only way he can do that is to stick me ahead of the queue but that’s his problem). He assures me and asks me to trust him. Then interestingly he volunteers that he had also caught Wanicha jumping queues for people and it’s actually the main reason why she was fired, aside from scamming.

(at this point I think once I get the contract in the mail and its real this is going somewhere. I wonder why he didn’t call the cops when he first fired her but whatever because if the contract is legit this time, I’ll get the car eventually. His word of December is better than guaranteed long 5-6 months at another dealership. If he fails on December then it’s the same as booking elsewhere anyway and still I’ll file a police report on her, and sending a letter myself to Ford co. chief at some point down the line)

-I ask the manager frankly why he didn’t call the cops in the first place when he fired her and as if pressured he volunteers that in fact she was fired not 2 months ago but 5 months ago! So I started questioning him suspiciously and basically his reasoning seems to suggest he didn’t want to upset me to much. <deleted>?!?!

(I’m thinking even before I met this dealership, he and his employees are all into this dirty business and he gets kick-backs. For wanicha scamming others, maybe she messed up and he used some excuse to get rid of her before it leads to him. Maybe the company was never called out on this because the people she scammed just simply thought it was too slow and cancelled their booking before raising any issues. That’s probably why he didn’t need to go to the police when he fired her and if he did, she would give up his name and he’d be in trouble too. Anyway, banking on the new contract that is to arrive in the mail and if it’s real, whatever this manager is up to it simply seems like he’s trying to save his own ass from getting in trouble by quietly taking care of it by fixing it right for me).

-Manager says he’s sending the contract as registered mail. I call back again to ask for the tracking number but he did not answer the call.

Something sounds fishy to me here, and I think it's the manager.

Same a I advised someone on another thread, take your receipt and visit the board of consumer protection at your local cityhall.

They will sort it out for you in no time.

You got scammed by somebody pretending to work at a Ford dealer. Did you ever get anything with 'Ford' on it BTW, especially the first receipt?

Now the dealer is making up for it, with a discount, honouring your deposit and giving you a fast track car. You have a legit contract for that.

So what is the problem now, looks like all is sorted to me.

I hope everything works out ok for the OP.

But why sign contracts at home? With all the double dealing going on, and even though it looks like good customer service, I would be hesitant in signing a contract away from the business site. Or maybe call the company to confirm that the person does indeed work for the company.

You signed all these papers and paid at the dealer?

--edit ---

I just read "she came to your house".

EEEHERRNNNNNN. (That's my buzzer sound)

That's Alarm Bell #1. That's like someone calling you at home saying its your bank and they need your account details.

If you buy a car, you go to the dealer and get a sales person there. All paper work and money is done at the dealership.

For wanicha scamming others, maybe she messed up and he used some excuse to get rid of her before it leads to him. Maybe the company was never called out on this because the people she scammed just simply thought it was too slow and cancelled their booking before raising any issues. That's probably why he didn't need to go to the police when he fired her and if he did, she would give up his name and he'd be in trouble too. Anyway, banking on the new contract that is to arrive in the mail and if it's real, whatever this manager is up to it simply seems like he's trying to save his own ass from getting in trouble by quietly taking care of it by fixing it right for me).

-Manager says he's sending the contract as registered mail. I call back again to ask for the tracking number but he did not answer the call.

Wow. All this crap for a lousy 5,000 baht?

-After a month and half or so, I ask her about the status of my finance and she claims it has been going slow, that the officer at TISCO handling my case hasn't been able to work efficiently for various reasons. Later on she claims that the finance officer lost all my documents and that she needs to resubmit new copies. It's going to be quite a few months before I get the truck according to the contract so I don't press much.

August

-She comes to my house and picks up the copies all over again claiming that my case has been referred to another officer, and picks up the second set of copies. All along from the beginning she has reassured me that finance would be taken care of in a matter of just a few weeks.

-She calls one day and says there's an aurora blue truck available if I wanted it now and I refuse because I want gunmetal blue. She claims Ford has been having issues with production and delivery, bla bla, and that delivery might be later than October because there aren't enough trucks, as if implying I don't get this ugly blue one I'll be waiting a while. Later that SAME day, she offers a red truck. I decline once again, wanting my original color choice.

September

-She notifies me that my finance has passed and wanted to pick up a few more documents which she has already taken as part of the second set of copies given to her in August. She never comes for them and keeps putting it off. I'm thinking this inefficiency and mess is just typical Thai BS and it is fine cos I don't ever have to go to her or the dealer to give these documents, she comes to my place.

-I call and ask when she's going to come and get the extra documents and she says finance will call me in a week citing their protocol. I never get that call. I figure finance is irrespective of truck delivery because some people have their cars waiting ready for pickup at some showrooms but are waiting for their finance to pass or just forget about it and let the dealer give them to someone else. Since it has already passed I figure push for processing when Wanicha notifies me ahead of time of the truck's arrival. I am aware that once the truck arrives they still have to install accessories like film and liners so it's not like I can go and get it right away.

October

-I call numerous times asking about my truck with suspicions implied surrounding paperwork/finance and ford factory issues she claims it has. Her excuse used to be ford suppliers not being able to pick up from the floods so ford stalls. Now it's that ford has reallocated labor to focus on the new ford focus sedan and not enough capacity for the trucks. I ask about ford's procedures/ nature of manufacture-delivery with respect to the booking dates that dealerships (especially Romklao) submit in their orders and she is literally speechless and cannot tell me except for "don't worry".

-I send her a message in English pestering about my truck. A few days later I get a message in Thai saying "I will try to get your truck on time but if it doesn't work out I am happy to return your 5000".

-Her message prompts me to call Romklao and speak to the manager that evening. He says she's been fired for two months. I describe whatever I could remember on the contract and he says it's fake. They have no record of my booking. Truck price has gone up 20,000. (in that call he said 10,000 but he misquoted or lied dunno. I checked myself and it's indeed up 20,000). She says she can't afford it yadda yadda…. and I threaten to call the cops. I ask about all my personal documents and bank info that she has in her hands and her intentions with them…she says don't worry bla bla. Nothing I can do about that anyway.

-Manager calls back turns out he has spoken to Wanicha and supposedly tells her off and demands she return 5000 and make up for my promotional benefits that have been lost or else he'll call the cops too.

-Then manager says later he can shave off 10,000 from the price (which is evident in the booking contract he snapped a picture of and sent me a few days ago….said he'll mail the hard copy to me) and has supposedly demanded Wanicha cough up the other 10,000.

-Later on the phone Wanicha says she just spoke to the manager and that "she will help with 10,000 so the new price comes down 10,000" when in fact that 10,000 she refers to is the dealer's own expense, pathetically thinking I'll believe that first 10,000 is from her. She is still responsible for the other 10,000. She hangs up.

-Regarding the former, manager says he is still waiting for a response from her on her 10,000 with the cop threat. He now says he'd rather not call the cops as the cops will not do anything…pushing for them to do anything will cost, lawyer's fees, etc.

(I had no comment about his backing out on the cops cos I'm thinking I'll do it myself anyway and the burden which he does not want will be just mine, which is fine. I expect no burden anyway because I do believe the cops won't give a crap. Report is filed and remains as paper on some cop's desk. If they do go after her, then win, whatever)

-Later informs that Wanicha has at least wired back 5000 but to the dealership which I do not immediately believe.

(the fact that Wanicha still generally answers calls and calls on her own accord lead me to believe she's been running around trying to fix it because she's probably taking the cop threat seriously, except she's thinking hard how she's gonna get the money. So maybe it's going somewhere.

This person could be Wanicha's friend sitting on a couch somewhere who knows.

-Mentioned it to manager he calls back and supposedly verified it himself that finance is real.

(I wondered why she even bothered filing it when she was scamming me all along. Perhaps so that in case I check and it's real I don't get suspicious, while the truck was never coming)

-26th Oct. I receive an image on my phone of the contract manager prepared which is supposed to be legit now. It indicates that I have already paid 5000 also explicitly showing he took off 10,000:

-On the phone says he'll mail it "fast mail" which I assume it's EMS. Asked how plausible his word on December really is (I'm thinking the only way he can do that is to stick me ahead of the queue but that's his problem). He assures me and asks me to trust him. Then interestingly he volunteers that he had also caught Wanicha jumping queues for people and it's actually the main reason why she was fired, aside from scamming.

(at this point I think once I get the contract in the mail and its real this is going somewhere. I wonder why he didn't call the cops when he first fired her but whatever because if the contract is legit this time, I'll get the car eventually. His word of December is better than guaranteed long 5-6 months at another dealership. If he fails on December then it's the same as booking elsewhere anyway and still I'll file a police report on her, and sending a letter myself to Ford co. chief at some point down the line)

-I ask the manager frankly why he didn't call the cops in the first place when he fired her and as if pressured he volunteers that in fact she was fired not 2 months ago but 5 months ago! So I started questioning him suspiciously and basically his reasoning seems to suggest he didn't want to upset me to much. <deleted>?!?!

Thanks but I was referring to the woman going through all that for 5,000 baht.

Hopefully the ranger is such a nice ride that one day I'll see more Rangers on the road than Cruzes. But not so far.

My daily commute is WAY more comfortable in the Cruze than it would be in a Ranger.

No, he is not starting from zero, the dealership is helping him out by ordering 'fast track'.

You guys have to be careful out there.

My mother in law was in her house watching TV minding her own business. Some woman showed up saying she was from True and just wanted to check her box and her card and offered her all these free things. MiL said "yea but I have no problem with my cable". "True person said "no but I just want to check anyway". Woman had no ID from True or anything. My MiL said No and never let her in the house.

SCAM.

Woman offers to go in your house and get a new car for you and you don't have to go to the dealer? Boloney. You want a car, Go to the dealer.

Same if they call you from your bank and ask you for information. What do you do? Tell them you need to hang up the phone. Let me have your number and extension and I will call you back. If they are for real, they will give you the bank's number and their extension. Also a Bank would never ask you for your personal information out of nowhere by phone or email.

Just common sense people.

Could be, but don't say 'starting from zero', because that is simply not true.

Maybe it is a little different situation here, but in my case, I've got all the same 'benefits' + extras(!)...only a little longer to wait ..dealer was all up to this(not his fault)...

Thanks.

All paper work and money is done at the dealership.

yup lesson learned there.

Wow. All this crap for a lousy 5,000 baht?

Perhaps you've missed the point. Its only 5000, and you are absolutely correct. The issue was that my truck was never booked due to the scam. I don't want to start another full cycle of waiting 5 months from rebooking at the same place or anywhere else. I booked the truck in April for a reason; lower price and promotional offers like free first year insurance. Rebooking there or anywhere else after that time period means the truck is now more expensive and valuable freebies like insurance are gone. I was fooled and scammed, yes. However I was still looking for some accountability so that I can restore booking price, free insurance, and not have to wait another long cycle for the truck. okay?....understand?

You got scammed by somebody pretending to work at a Ford dealer. Did you ever get anything with 'Ford' on it BTW, especially the first receipt?

Now the dealer is making up for it, with a discount, honouring your deposit and giving you a fast track car. You have a legit contract for that.

So what is the problem now, looks like all is sorted to me.

He only made up for half the price increase. I still did not recover free insurance, plus having to wait until december instead of getting it now like I should. It was possible that it could take longer than december. I am entitled to have my original deal. The manager realizes that, otherwise he wouldn't try to make up for it, even though it was not enough.

(I'm thinking even before I met this dealership, he and his employees are all into this dirty business and he gets kick-backs.

No, because he was waiting for a car he ordered 8 months ago and is now informed that he will have to start from zero again.

If it had been a Cruze he had ordered, he would probably be relieved with that message, but instead he ordered a decent ride.

Misunderstood. I didn't know you meant the woman. Sorry.
