My KindleDX battery died. Well it discharges in less than 8 hours. I bought the kindle just over two years ago from Amazon sent here.

I decided to contact them to see whether it was worth fixing as it is now out of warantee.

No problem we will replace it as the battery has failed said the girl at the end of the chatroom.

It is out of warantee now said I how much will it cost.

Nothing said the girl we will replace it free.

So I now have a new kindle winging to me via priority courier.

Great service highly unexpected. The chat was painless too with their call centre girl in India.

All the people buying kindles through friends in other countries and sending them here to save the courier fees or buying greyware products here to save the hassle are probably losing out.

I bought correctly and my precious Kindle will hopefully continue to give me satisfaction for a few more years.

Great service Amazon. Congratulations.

I agree that Amazon's service for Kindle is great. I bought my Kindle keyboard about 2 years ago at BestBuy in New York. When the screen went bad a couple of months ago, they shipped a new one to me after a brief, pleasant chat. As long as you buy the Kindle legitimately anywhere in the world, they will cover you.

This kind of hassle free service is not often found these days. When I get it, it usually makes me very loyal to that brand.

I agree on Amazon's service, but don't agree that buying it through a friend I lose out on anything. Having a friend ship the Kindle in a padded mailer was much less than Amazon's shipping rate and I saved the outrageous customs duty.

When I shipped the Kindle back because I damaged it by dropping it (also out of warranty), I returned it directly to Amazon and Amazon refunded my international return shipping fees on my word of the amount. It was over $30 because I used the EMS service.

Then I had the new one returned to me though the same friend. Amazon shipped to my friend, and the friend shipped to me by post in a padded envelope (about $16US). So I paid $16 twice.

Don't be a fool, you lose nothing by using a friend or relative to procure your Kindle. If you get it direct, you will pay higher shipping fees to get it and an outrageous amount to the Thai government (was it $70US?). It seems to me that when I looked into buying a Kindle, I saved around $100US by having it go through a friend.
