BANGKOK: -- Myanmar has denied the existence of a plot to assassinate former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra during his planned visit to the border town of Tachilek, the online edition of the Wall Street Journal on November 6.

The report quoted Pol Maj Min Kyaw Thu in Nay Pyi Taw as saying "it has nothing to do with Mr Thaksin. There is absolutely no plot to assassinate Mr Thaksin".

Thaksin has called off his trip to Tachilek, originally scheduled for tomorrow and Saturday, citing warnings from Thai and Myanmar security authorities that there was a plot to assassinate him. However, his plan to visit Nay Pyi Taw to meet Myanmar president Thein Sein is still on.

News about the claimed plot was exaggerated by Thaksin's son, Panthongtae, who wrote about it on his Facebook page, linking the plot to a seizure of weapons in the areas recently.

Maj Min Kyaw Thu was quoted by the Journal as saying the case was drugs-related and was under investigation.

Wow.... Oak lied about something regarding his fugitive father?

Shocking.

This shows how far these criminals go to cheat this country and their beloved Reds.

"Somebody wants to kill my father, I am sure" Really sick if you say this and it isn’t true. Sick people.

Is he saying the kid's on drugs? (again!)

Seems as the influence that Thaksin thought he had isn't the powerful mojo he thinks it is,the son it seems is as deluded as the father. What a family of social misfits.

How many times is it now that Thaksin and his cronies have cried wolf ?

When the time comes to cry wolf for real nobody is going to listen, remember the folk tale Thaksin.

So the so called plt was played up by Chalerm and Thaksin's son so that the red and gullible will think it true. Will this denial by the govt. in Myanmar get the same attention thus effectively naming the above as opportunist/liars?

Doubtful...since it was the WSJ who broke the story, reported by The Nation - those whom you think it's played for are not the typical reader base of either publication, I'd warrant.

As of 2 days ago, it was at least five. Not sure if there have been more in the interim.

Panthongtae in the other paper is calling this the 5th attempt on Dad's life, all of which involved the same group of people.

Tachileik? So he can get as close as possible to the Thai border without crossing into Thailand? What did he plan to do there? Buy some fake cigarettes, fake viagra or fake batteries? Tachileik is no place for a rich politician like Thaksin.

I've been to Tachilek, but never made it to where Thaksin was going to stay, Regina Golf Club Resort. It certainly looks a lot nicer than the rest of the border town.

Sounds like a bit of self publicity for Thaksin. Nothing like a failed or non existent assassination plot to keep the public interested

You think a failed assassination attempt has the public interested? A successful one would be much more interesting.

Yes, but not a move filled with political longevity

It's a bit worrying for the nation's security that senior Deputy PM Chalerm should have more faith in Pingpongtae's Facebook page than the resources of Thai Defence Ministry.

But perhaps not entirely surprising.

A family of "social misfits" that many on here are scared of and that seem to be running the country...........

Quite effectively at the moment and with a PM enjoying good ratings.

Quite amusing.......

Well done, all the way from Siricha to Tachilek...

I've actually stayed there and it's pretty grotty in my opinion.

What is Siricha?

While it very well may be grotty, compared to what else there is in Tachilek, it's palatial.

Still, if it's as rough as you imply, I could see why a billionaire might not care for it.

Of course 'Myanmar' is going to deny it. And Thaksin's son? Bet he couldn't care less with what he'll inherit. Maybe make the old man paranoid? But none of the family has any credibility anyway so why not let the truth reveal itself when there is a corpse to display!

The report quoted Pol Maj Min Kyaw Thu in Nay Pyi Taw as saying "it has nothing to do with Mr Thaksin. There is absolutely no plot to assassinate Mr Thaksin".

So in Thai we have "Nuttawut: If Panthongtae hadn't known for sure, he wouldn't have talked about the "assassination" plot." and Dept. PM Pol Captain Chalerm confirming, but in non-Thai information sources it's all exposed as something close to a hoax.

Luckily a larger part of the Thai population doesn't read anything but Thai ?

Till it becomes a Greece, failed state, or one in civil war.

Thais give goods ratings to their television series.

Nuff sed.

THAI-MYANMAR RELATIONS

Thaksin invited to Myanmar 'again': Noppadon

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Myanmar President Thein Sein has invited former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to visit his country again to deliver a lecture on economic development, notably on the eradication of poverty and the development of rural areas, the ex-leader's legal adviser Noppadon Pattama said yesterday.

Thaksin visited Thein Sein socially during his trip to Myanmar and the two leaders got to know each other quite well while the former leader was still in office, he said.

"Thaksin praised Myanmar's economic and political reforms for democracy and indicated that it would be under the international community's attention once the Western countries have lifted the sanctions," Noppadon posted on his Facebook page.

The date for the lecture will be set later, Noppadon said, adding that he had spoken to Thaksin on the phone after the former leader met Thein Sein yesterday. Noppadon said Thaksin discussed many regional issues, including Asean's future, with the Myanmar leader.

Thaksin's high-profile trip to Myanmar kicked off yesterday. It is believed he is in the neighbouring country to get as close to Thailand as possible as well as make some business deals.

His plan to meet his red-shirt supporters in the border town of Tachilek was cancelled after news of an assassination plot hit the headlines over the past week.

However, Myanmar has denied the existence of the plot, the online edition of the Wall Street Journal said on Tuesday. It quoted Pol Major Min Kyaw Thu as saying, "it has nothing to do with Thaksin. There is absolutely no plot to assassinate Thaksin".

News about the claimed plot became big news after Thaksin's son Panthongtae began posting messages on his Facebook page linking the plot to the seizure of weapons at the border recently.

Major Min Kyaw Thu was quoted in the paper as saying that the case was related to drugs and was being investigated.

Haha, although this is big news, a neighboring country basically confirming that Thaksin is a liar, this thread is dying out. Funny. WHY IS THERE NO THAKSIN SUPPORTER AROUND DEFENDING HIS LIES. cheesy.gif

Anyhow, this must be good for the relation with Burma....NOT.

As I always said, Thaksin is using Thailand to force countries into accepting him. Very good for the diplomatic relations between the countries.

I'm sure Khun Oak and Senior Deputy PM Chalerm will be on fb and twitter appologising for their comments based on misleading information that someone provided them with, as well as making similar TV and press statements. Just another honest mistake ................ and you can't be too careful, better safe than sorry. whistling.gif
