Email Attachment Deleted,, Recovery Possible?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,, I've just deleted an email containing an attachment that I had stored in a file within my inbox for a few months,, I was using my iPhone and being a bit heavy handed accidentally deleted it,,, I immediately checked my trash folder and it doesn't appear to be in there although on initial opening of the trash it showed there were files in my trash, however after I opened the trash I found it to be empty,, is there any easy way I can recover this attachment..

Thanks in advance

For the very reasons you describe I use a program called Unblunder (http://www.yazsoft.c...ucts/unblunder/). It's great. Just make sure you have it running in the background all the time (make sure trash protection is ON). The easiest way to ensure this is to add it to your login items. This way it will launch every time you startup. System Preferences/Accounts - Login Options. This is an OS X proggy and I'm not sure if there is an iPhone version. However it should work if you have a mac as email etc should be pushed to all your Apple devices.

The only other method I know of is to use recovery software like StellarPhoenix which takes a while and is by no means infallible.

It should be in the trash, try to look for it again. Sometimes it takes a while to update the Trash - it's just like another inbox, and the iPhone doesn't automatically move your message to the trash. The trash mailbox is basically loaded from the server.

Are you using iCloud email? If so you can log in with a web browser at iCloud.com and look for it there. Have to do that from a computer. Same for gmail eetc.

In my experience the iPhone Mail client is very unreliable when you *really want to get mail right now* which is what you usually want to do. I often get it stuck in an updating state where nothing happens...

I think you've just witnessed another heavy handed blunder with my post flying off before I've completed it,,, hehe,, anyway thanks for the replies guys,, it still hasn't shown up in deleted files Nick, guess its goodbye to that file, I think my trouble is I'm getting too reliant on my iPhone, that's 2 weeks I've been home from work now and haven't opened up my MacBook since arriving, still I thought I would have mastered the touchscreen by now,, thank goodness I'm not a medical surgeon,,

Thanks also for the tip re the software download, I'll maybe look into that before any more accidents.

There is a fault on OSX I believe whereby if you accidentally delete, for example by trying to edit a draft without "forwarding" it doesn't seem to be in trash.

I just brought this up on Macrumours after losing a couple of long drafts and after a few questions was told "that as they say is that."

Just a long shot but my ISP's Exchange servers still have my emails long after my client has done a send and receive. Nikster already mentioned this. Might log onto your account via web mail and see if it's there unless you're using web mail. ??

I found this out accidentally when my .pst file corrupted in Outlook, and I had to replace it with a backup from a couple of days before. As soon as I opened Outlook again, it started receiving all of the emails I would have been missing. Again. So I logged on with the Firefox browser and looked, and there were more than 60 days of emails parked there. That included the ones I had deleted and the junk mail folder so I had the job of deleting them again.

Good luck.

Well it depends if this email was sent to him and in his inbox then its most likely still around

But if it was and attachment in a draft message, it might be gone.

I've lost drafts before as well, it's easy to do.
