Does anyone have have experience getting their child an Australian passport through descent? Is it a long prcess? what are the steps and so forth?

We just got her (Kitty, my daughter) a Thai passport, although I still have to sign when I am home on leave to make it valid.

My wife and child are going to come with me to Azerbaijan on my next swing, then 6 weeks later when my swing is finished we plan to travel straight to Aus. to show the baby to my family.

I will be in Thailand for 2 weeks in March and that's all the time I have to arrange this, So I figure just a normal Tourist visa for my wife, and maybe the same for my daughter using her Thai passport if it takes too long for to arrange an Aussie one.

Anyone been there done that?

What do you guys think of my plans?

funny we can all go to Azerbaijan with no worries, but for me to take my family home it is a bit harder :o

Thanks guys

Check out this link.

I have no expereince myself with respect to your situation, however, you should be aware that since the 1st of December last year Australian passports can only be issued from Canberra, London or Washington DC.

In practical terms, this means that you still can apply from the Australian embassy in Bangkok, but there is a 10 working day turn around time for the passport to arrive from OZ. If that is not enough time, the OZ embassy (last I looked) can issue a temporary 4 page Australian passport valid for 1 year.

Also, as a dual citizen: make sure Kitty departs and returns to Thailand on the Thai passport!!

looks like you can complete the form online and then print it out at work...could save you some time and running around!

I also think that before you do all that, you have to register your daughter first as an Australian citizen by decent at the embassy in BKK. This seems to be a totally different process to the actual passport application.

Tuky,

you may not have enough time but have a look at this site

Aussie

You will need birth certificates for you and bubs and I reckon originals.

You might be able to apply online at that site or download the forms and lodge from where you are.

The link contains contacts for missions overseas so you may be able to do some emailing also

regards

I that isn't possible make sure she arrives and departs on a plane.

IT, you got me. What does it mean?

Boats not allowed?

That would be discriminating

Use the Thai passport this time. The time you have will beat you. Start the process by registering the birth and apply for the passport.

Thanks guys, I will endeavour to keep you all informed. It is one thing to read the forms and so forth, it is another thing to have actually done it. Will let you all know how it turns out.
