Phuket will test out the early warning system on Wednesday and warn people not to panic when hearing the alarms.

PHUKET: -- Phuket authorities issued a statement informing the general public not to panic when they hear the early warning sirens at different locations around the island on Wednesday the 15th February between 9.30am to midday, as they are only test out. Phuket Vice Governor Nirund Kalayanamitra said on this Wednesday the private company hired to install equipment at early warning towers in Phuket will hand over the completed work to the local authority, which needs to test out the systems to see whether they work properly.

The system will be triggered from the Provincial Hall and sirens will go off at 15 different beaches namely 3 sites in Patong, plus Sapan Hin, Ao Yon, Kata Karon, Kamala, Nai Yang, Bang Tao, Mai Khao, Ao Por, Chalong, Laem Tukkae and Rawai. The Phuket authority then informs residents and tourists not to panic as the sirens are only for tests of equipment. 18 early warning towers are set to be built in Phuket with 15 completed now.
