Notstupid30 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Euro 2020 will be held in a number of cities across the continent, UEFA confirms Last Updated: December 6, 2012 4:47pm UEFA will stage the Euro 2020 tournament in a number of cities across the continent, the European governing body has announced. The decision was announced following a meeting of UEFA's executive committee in Lausanne on Thursday. UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino told a press conference after the meeting: "Some important decisions have been taken. "UEFA Euro 2020 will be staged across the continent, in various major cities, following a decision taken today. A Euro for Europe follows an initial idea by UEFA president Michel Platini. "The response has been extremely positive from all the national associations." The format and number of host cities that will be involved in the tournament will be decided by UEFA's national teams committee with the bidding process to begin in March. A final announcement is expected in the spring of 2014 with the Football Association having already put Wembley Stadium forward as a possible venue for the final. Turkey had initially bid to host Euro 2020 and the nation's representative, Senes Erzik, opposed the decision. UEFA also announced that the 2013/14 European women's under-17 tournament will be hosted in England. Read More : http://www1.skysport...t-UEFA-confirms
StevieH Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 "The response has been extremely positive from all the national associations." surprising that, given they all get free tickets, flights and hotel rooms. the paying fan screwed over as usual. joke.
SantiSuk Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Couldn't agree more Stevie - decision based purely on revenue maximisation for the UEFA snouts. Big ticket prices in big stadium fat cat cities in the rich countries. Luvvly jubbly, oink oink! They must have been so aggreived at all those tickets being sold off so cheaply to peasants in Ukraine and Poland. I dislike Baltter intensely, but he at least seems to have development of the game to a wider audience as an honorable objective. Should have gone to Ireland and Scotland - the game needs a boost there!

Russia ans Qatar anyone?
Foxman888 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 I've read a couple of articles this morning where there has been mention of Group Hubs (must be a Thai involved), so for example Brussels, Amsterdam, Paris or London, Glasgow, Dublin for group stages. If this happens not so bad. Poland and Ukraine involved long distances. Especially as some dolt decided on England's base before the group draw had been made. As a previous poster pointed out, a host country gets a massive boost from hosting, and the sports governing body does not care about the true fans so in my opinion keep it as it is, ie 1 or 2 hosts. They've already done their best to ruin it by expanding to 24 teams
MrRed Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 UEFA enjoys playing around with it's competitions doesn't it,it only serves to diminish the credibility they once had. Can still see a breakaway new EURO football association forming soon especially with the power clubs have now from TV rights. They have already ruined the UEFA Cup and the European Cup with there meddling now they are after the Euro's as well Leeches the lot of them. Platini and Blatter must be the most hated people in World football.

Some fantastic memories of British sides in those finals.

Some fantastic memories of British sides in those finals. That's because they were fair competitions. Madrid still managed to win it plenty times when it was fair...same with Forest...Liverpool....and on and on....! Now it is an insult to the game this seedings crap. 3
mrbojangles Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Now it is an insult to the game this seedings crap. Totally agree. As for holding the Euro's in several countries. My first thoughts are that I think it could turn out to be quite fair. Unless they don't let that countires team play in their own country. i.e. no England games in England, or German games in Germany etc. I've always been dubious about these comepetitions, as the cost of travel to the host nation and accomodation prices go through the roof for the lenght of the comp. Maybe, just maybe, this might stop or reduce this total rip off to the fans.
MrRed Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 I suppose these wanke_rs have to create something for there overpaid mafia positions to make decisions over.....I really don't know how they could make it work fairly unless no team plays in there own country.Just have loads of stadiums around Europe on standby? Obviously France will benefit with being central! Like i say "jobs for the boys" at the highest level..........
Chicog Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 If you look at the main reason for doing this, it's that only Turkey bid for it, and who the hell in their right mind would send a load of party-loving football fans to a sh*thole of a country that's full of rabid, irascible headcases? What I don't get is why England didn't bid, they would have walked it and could host the thing with minimal expenditure on infrastructure. Plus they've proven time and time again that they are pretty decent at organising such events.

Actually I think the Olympics is a better example. Far more complex than a simple 24-team football tournament.
StevieH Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Actually I think the Olympics is a better example. Far more complex than a simple 24-team football tournament. which would indicate that it's a money thing. the olympics cost the british taxpayer so much money that going back to them now to fund a euros would look a bit cheeky no?
Travel2003 Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Should have gone to Ireland and Scotland - the game needs a boost there! Just out of curiosity, if Scotland got it. Who would pay for it?
StevieH Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Just out of curiosity, if Scotland got it. Who would pay for it? north sea oil and sean connery. obvs. 1
Travel2003 Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Just out of curiosity, if Scotland got it. Who would pay for it? north sea oil and sean connery. obvs. So England, Wales, N-Ireland, etc, will be part of the sponsors to make sure Scotland can be hosts? Again, not trying to be "smart" here, just curious as how it works within UK.

Chicog Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 the olympics cost the british taxpayer so much money that going back to them now to fund a euros would look a bit cheeky no? You are forgetting that a large part of the Olympics cost was the infrastructure; the stadium, the swimming centre, the transport upgrades, etc. They wouldn't have to build anything for this. Wembley, the Emirates, Old Trafford, Anfield, Citeh of Scumchester stadium, St. James Park, Villa Park, etc. - the stadia are already there. It would almost certainly make a profit from ticket sales and hotel/tourism revenue. The only taxpayers that would moan about it would be scolding wives and people interested in them sports what is not proper like egg chasing.
Travel2003 Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 One thing you can never be accused of being is smart. What the hell? You ambush me? Because of a discussion in another thread? Well isnt that a coward.

Honestly sunshine, if as on the Messi thread you wish to misquote me and speak on behalf of the opinions of all this forums posters you need to grow a pair.
