Sandman77
Today I found with the iPad a open WLAN 200 m away from my house! How high are the chance to catch the signal with a big outdoor WLAN Yagi antena over this distance? Sent from my iPhone using ThaiVisa app
thaimite
I suggest you buy yourself a can of Pringles, and then Google the word Cantenna I believe the flavour is not critical to the design. monty
Depends on obstructions between you and the wlan. Microwaves (such as wlan uses) penetrate solid material very badly. Especially wet stuff such as tree/plant leaves. If no obstructions in the line of sight, many hundreds of meters. If there are obstructions such as walls or trees, likely even the best antenna will not help you!
Deke
How would you connect the antenna to the IPad?

Pushit
Sounds kind of parasitic, but I guess that's a sign of the times. Why not "Man Up" and get your own ADSL connection..?? Not possible, tether you phone.

JakeBKK
There are two basic rules to follow: 1) LOS Line of sight. YOU can see the antenna / router / wth 2) Fresnel zone - imagine a football (American) shaped space between the devices. In that space should be empty. also you need to enhance the aerial on both sides of a link. I like the frying pan, but actually an old satellite dish will do a better job !
