[Myanmar] Thailand Gives Burmese Workers Three-Month Extension

Thailand’s government has agreed to extend a deadline for the registration of Burmese migrant workers following talks between President Thein Sein and Thai PM Yingluck Shinawatra on Monday, according to a report by The New Light of Myanmar. The deadline, originally set for Dec. 14, has been extended by three months, the report said. The Thai government had threatened to deport an estimated 1 million workers who had failed to register at nationality verification centers set up by the Burmese government inside Thailand. There are around 2.5 million Burmese nationals believed to working in Thailand.
