Burma’s state-owned newspapers are due to become “independent†next year as they are remodeled as “public service media.†As a result, the Burmese government has formed a five-member governing body in order to transform its three dailies—Myanma Alin, Kyemon and The New Light of Myanmar—currently run by the Ministry of Information into public service media, reported state-run publications on Saturday. The governing body also intends to improve the “form and content†of the newspapers and set up journalism schools for the training of reporters and editors.
