Headed to Pattaya Rd. 16 where a lot of middle eastern restaurants were located on Google map. Not a one of them was still in business. I would have to think that Covid completely shut them down? It was sorry to see. Rather than scout out any others I headed back from whence I had come as I had passed a French bakery on the way to the Arab district. I thought I would give that one a shot. Turned out to be a splendid choice. La Baguette French Bakery Cafe & Restaurant on Thappraya Rd. directly next to the lane taking you into the Pattaya Provincial Court. Much more of a bakery than a restaurant as they only had a few menu items other than sandwiches and salads. I had the pleasure of meeting, greeting and eating the largest, flakiest and most beautiful croissant ever. Stuffed with slightly grilled Virginia ham, gourda cheese, a mayonnaise based sauce, and accompanied by the usual garden veggies. It was massive in size and would easily demolish any hunger pangs for only 350 baht. I washed that down with a delicious 160 baht thick banana Barvarian milkshake served with a stiff paper straw. For dessert I ordered the crepe suzette stuffed with a fruit medley of oranges, berries, strawberries and apples soaked with orange sauce and flanked by a dollop of orange sherbet and homemade cream for 280 baht. The portion size was again overly generous and needed a dinner plate to be laid onto. Next time I would ask them to not serve the crepe until after I had eaten the sandwich as the cream did not hold it's shape for long and the sherbet began melting. This photo does justice in illustrating the enormous and impressive size of these two items. At the prices asked I consider this to be a steal. My wife was dead set on some Thai food so she only nibbled on the sandwich. She is also averse to sweets other than myself . . . surprisingly. She had only ordered green tea, which I can't describe fully as I didn't look at it on the menu, and accompanied by a pecan cookie. It was certainly very photogenic. The pastries on display where every bit of what you would expect to find in an Austrian Bäckerei. I highly recommend the place and am somewhat thankful that it's far enough from where I live so that I can't eat there daily. it has nothing French but the name. clearly overpriced place for Thai living on debts but still spending for useless overpriced food. When we arrived there was a large table with about a half dozen well dressed Thais drinking wine but not eating any food. As we left they didn't appear to be leaving anytime soon. There were a fair number of customers. It was established in 1998. You don't last 20 years in the business if your food is lousy.

Just from my experience, and I've eaten French croissants in Europe, the La Baguette is one of the best I've ever had. It was most definitely one of the largest I've had and I can't imagine another croissant capable of being flakier. I would also guarantee they aren't mass produced . . . hence home baked as well. Jingthing
Curious how people think the Odelice jomtien croissants compare to the competition. They are normal sized but normal priced too. I don't really have an opinion as I avoid croissants perhaps because I worked for a year in a French bakery as a kid. Brings back bad memories of manual labor.

Have had better in Bangkok, Bali, Amsterdam, and the US but this was still darn good. Atmosphere too frou frou for me. Prices between moderate and high moderate. No plus plus. Opens at 3 pm. Closed Mondays. One of their rames combo "mini rice table" choices for good value 295. Some fusion, Dutch, and Thai dishes as well mixed in the menu. Personally I would prefer it to be all Indonesian but up to them. Edited March 6, 2021 by Jingthing 6

There is no way that your Thai maid can make croissant. Most efforts result in a bread like substance. Don't you get tired of Trolling? If you had anything about you, you would know that the croissant is not even French. Ridiculous. It is not by mistake that even the owner of the business you link to here calls them; Viennoiseries. So try to stop making a fool of yourself here. Travel a bit and gain some knowledge. Have you ever visited, France, Vienna or Turkey? Odelice owner is french yes, and prices are better. Fer keerist sake, if a croissant is good then why trash and diminish it simply because of other mitigating aspects that personally seem to rub you the wrong way? Is life so miserable? You also keep harping on the price but you don't take into account 1) it's massive size, and 2) the price was not for the croissant itself, and 3) if it's authentic Virginia ham and gouda cheese then the import prices have to be included into the 'entire' price of the sandwich. One of my favourite Italian restaurants is just off of Bangna Trad on Srinagarindra just south of the Maple Hotel called Chili La Roni. Everything I've tried on that menu is superb. I've turned countless people onto that establishment over the years and I've only heard good reviews. But wait, the owner isn't Italian. He's not even European. He's Thai. Great guy. He explained to me that he worked for a long time as an Italian chef under the tutelage of Italian chefs. I guess the fact that he isn't Italian would be the all important overriding factor for trashing the quality of his food? So sad that some people offer only more sour grapes to depreciate and undervalue what was, at least for me, a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable experience. I'll go back next time I'm in the area. Edit: I'd wager you wouldn't be too enthusiastic to put money on your bombastic claim that your Thai maid can make a better croissant than La Baguette. Jingthing
I wasn't talking about French people. I was talking about French food. I was assuming that a shop selling baguettes and croissants is probably selling some French foods. Now I realize it isn't always reasonable to make such assumptions. For example once I visited a "Thai" restaurant in a small town in Arkansas. The menu had Thai dish names but the food wasn't really Thai. Similarly Taco Bell fast food chain serves tacos but even they admit they don't sell Mexican food. Also a piece of bread with a hole in it doesn't necessarily make it a bagel. So mea culpa. Popular Post seasia
Doner King 2 Tree Town food court soi bukhao. It is an offshoot branch of the Pattaya Klang Doner King. I have now used it a few times. Location handy for me. Beef kebab 90 baht. Chicken kebab 70 baht. Big enough for me, I usually ask them to cut a piece off when wrapped and I take it away and give it away to whoever wants it.. Hate wasting food and my appetite small. Couple of friends bought their own chicken kebabs from there and were happy. I got their Line contact number and they did actually deliver to me, to a nearby bar. I just phoned, not very good with using a smartphone/apps etc. I have eaten several times from the Pattaya Klang outlet. Always OK. 2

Popular Post Jingthing
Basmati Restaurant Indian, Momo Dumplings, Chinese, and Indo Chinese Pattaya Tai at Second Road, a tad bit east on Pattaya Tai I think I probably posted about this place before. I was happy they had Momo dumplings and thought their Indian was pretty good too. They closed for a long time because of the great unpleasantness but are now open again with a somewhat revamped menu. Also available on Grab app. They still have Momos and Indian but now have some basic Indian sets (for example a curry, nan, and rice) and also a lot of Chinese / Indo Chinese choices. "Chinese" dishes that would appeal to many westerners like hot and sour soup, egg foo young, salt and pepper, Sichuan sauce, and Chinese curry sauce. I vaguely recall suggesting to them before to add American style egg foo young to their menu because nobody else has it, and Americans would like it. For me the jury is still out based on two Grab meals. The momos are the same as before. Choice of vegetable or chicken. The dumpling part is OK, but I'm not thrilled with the consistency of the fillings but I love their side spicy Sichuan dipping sauce. I ordered the hot and sour soup twice, once with vegetables and once with chicken. I liked the vegetable version better, but the second time I got it with chicken it was overly salty for my taste. I had the fish biryani, ordered spicy. Excellent flavor. As their name is biryani, it's fair to expect their rice dishes will be good and it seems that they are. With the Chinese dishes only biryani rice is available, which is a bit odd. I was excited to try the egg foo young with shrimp (other adds available). Superficially this was indeed as close to American style egg foo young as I've ever seen in Thailand. There were three pancakes and a gravy (as is the Chinese American way) was included as well to pour over. However, I did say superficially. What's different? Compared to typical Chinese American egg foo young: the pancakes were thinner not enough seasoning no added vegetable such as the classic bean sprouts, sometimes water chestnut, except for perhaps a tiny bit of scallion funny complaint, but not greasy enough indicating they were pan fried rather than deep fried the gravy was not thickened I didn't dislike the dish but I can't say it's the holy grail of Chinese American style egg foo young in Thailand. Popular Post Jingthing
Thanksgiving in March? One day only! Today Saturday March 20 from https://www.hotmeals2u.com/ Free delivery. Delivery arm of Tigglebitties. Keeping on the theme of American foods, how about some roast turkey white and dark meat, sage and onion stuffing, and house made gravy? Sold as a turkey sub I suggest ordering as deconstructed and serving as a platter instead. 275 baht I thought it was good value considering the rarity of turkey in Thailand. I pimped it up by slathering some deli mustard and Avocado on one side of the bread and made the bread wet with the gravy. Also some Jalapeños because I had them and we all know the original American Indians were really Mexicans. You want American dessert too? Sweet potato pie 80 baht. Popular Post Jingthing
Guang Seafood Restaurant Third road North Pattaya Accross from Sohotown Chinatown tourist area Gourmet Chinese restaurant Not a Sichuan restaurant but a few Sichuan dishes Prices surprisingly moderate except for the seafood by weight which I'm assuming is expensive No English menu Featuring seafood of course but not only This is just informational as I haven't eaten there yet While I know this restaurant is on the newer side I don't know specifically how new. Its a large and impressive restaurant physically that obviously represents a major investment. It has a kind of outdoor garden setting with seating in front of the indoor part of the restaurant. Its encouraging to see there are people optimistic about the future of Pattaya. Of course the target for this place is Chinese tourists. I stopped in to check it out. The menu is on a tablet. There are pictures for all the menu items but I couldn't identify what the majority of the dishes were. I suppose you could use Google translate to try to figure things out. There was nobody there at the time that really spoke English but it was clear to me they aren't in any rush to cater to English speakers. I'm not saying they were rude but I wonder how welcoming they would be to people that don't order the expensive seafood part of the menu. I was given a discount card that I haven't translated yet so if you do go try to get the discount card if they don't just give it to you. If anyone visits this place before I do, please report your experience here. Note to TaaSaparot -- looking forward to your laughing emoji. Jingthing
O'Garas Irish Pratumnak https://m.facebook.com/TaraOgaras/ I'm sure lots of locals know this place but trying it was new to me. On the theme of poultry and stuffing meals O'Garas offers a feast of a large European 1/2 roast chicken seasoned well, delicious stuffing, and I recall mash and vegetables as well. 350 baht but on Grab discounts are frequently offered. I'll definitely order that again. Also tried their lasagna served with salad. Not really Italian style lasagne. I guess its more like pub grub style. One sheet of pasta only as a base. A nice salad but delivered undressed. But adding olive oil and red wine vinegar at home it was delicious. .
