I remember reading in the past at T-V about "gold cards" Thais use for reduced costs with health treatment, and that maybe it is possible for a foreigner to get one under certain circumstances. Would like to check what the procedures are in obtaining one.

Does anyone have alink to this info? I have searched the forums unsuccessfuly. Thanks

There is no procedure, foreigners are not eligible, only Thai citizens.

Foreigners are eligible for free medical care under the Social Security system, though. For that, you have to be legally employed for 13 months and you can then keep it for life as long as you pay the modest premiums.

If you are in need of reliable medical services and do not want to be fooled by those overpriced private hospitals, go to Chulalongkorn University's special clinic after 4 pm. Specially trained doctors with good quality meds and reasonable price. I have had my allergy treated at BNH before i switched to Chula, i was precribed the same meds at Chula but much much cheaper. Oh and there's a time that i had a very bad stomach problem with heartburns, the doctor at BNH prescribed a few kind of meds worth 3000 baht which turned out could not do a dam_n thing. A few days later my wife went to the drug store and came back with Gaviscon worth almost a hundred baht a bottle. After i finished a bottle in one day plus a lot of yogurt drinking, i was fine and never had heartburns again since. Gaviscon rules
