Burma’s Co-operative Bank has announced that the Shanghai-based China Union Pay card can be used to withdraw money from the bank’s ATMs starting from Jan. 1, according to the state-run Kyemon newspaper. Card users can withdraw Burmese kyat from machines in 50 locations across Burma, with another 100 to be added over the next three months, said Kyaw Lin, the bank’s vice-chairman. The service will be available to tourists and businesspeople from China as well as users from 135 other countries. Card holders can withdraw 300,000 kyat (US $350) at a time, and up to 1 million kyat a day.
