True Sme Adsl: Improvement From Home Package?

Featured Replies

So, because True had been such a disappointment (not providing the bandwidth they sold, but still better than the rest of the ISP's), I upgraded from a home package to an SME 2.5 Mb account back about a year ago. The main problem I had was with my VoIP.

Now I'm moving to a new house, and wanted to transfer my ADSL to that new address. As of the last 2 months, the SME account has been lagging big time. I was told on an SME, you are promised 60% of the int'l bandwidth they promise (so I should get at least 1 Mb, right?). Well, it has been horrible the last 2 months on internet browsing and downloading,...but at the same time, the VoIP had been fine.

So, when trying to transfer my ADSL to the new house, the technician tells me on the phone that it will cost 4,000 baht to get the new line installed in the new house and 1600 baht to transfer the ADSL. BUT, if I get a new line and have ADSL Home Package 2Mb installed, it will all be free. I figured that the last few months on the SME account have been less than promised, so I'm going to save myself 5000+ baht transfer fee's and about 1500 baht / month (the extra cost for the SME account) and just try the home package again. Do I sound like I'm making a mistake here? Or have people with the SME accounts noticed the same decreased speed?

Thanks!

I just went back to the 2Mb SME account after a 2-month experience without it. I wouldn't get anything else. It's not cheap, but at least you can count on a consistent quality connection. Lately, it's been quite fast.

I'm not sure why True told you had to pay 1,600 baht for transferring the ADSL. Couldn't you just get a new telephone line, cancel your SME account, and apply for a new one?

Yeah. I spoke to the rep @ True and got a different story. Won't cost anything to transfer the service. Will be up and running @ my new house on March 1st. I must say, despite what others say, True support has always been top notch for me. The only hard part is to get through their automated attendant. All I do, is call back 10 times, or so. Eventually I get through. They should have a dedicated support line for SME accounts, given we pay more. Thanks a lot for your feedback melus.

Your right. I suggested this when they were first offering these accounts. What I do to get the service is take the elevator ride up to the 22nd floor at Fortune and talk to the support staff in person. I think it's a lot more personal that way and they get to put a face with the guy (me) when I call them.

To put another experience with the corporate accounts:

It sucks. Yes, the VOIP was good, but everything else was too slow to be worth the premium. Their service is bad, their customer support is a joke, and their techs are clueless. I switched to buddyBB, which has its quirks, but it's at least as fast, and costs 1/5th the price.

But then again, experiences may vary. I was paying 2,500/month for 512k. I hear that the SME accounts are "only" 2,500/month for 2.5mbit, but the price varies from promotion to promotion. I *might* go back to them again, but then I cringe at the thought of having to contact their ludicrous customer support.

Also, I've talked with people who say that True supposed guarantees 60% bandwidth on their *home* packages, but try asking about it from anyone else (or trying to find it in your contract) and it suddenly is MIA.
